Hi there- yes, I’m 29 weeks today with an anterior placenta and sometimes it’s hard to tell a pattern! At the moment it just seems to be lots in the evening, but sometimes she needs a poke to make her move.
I’ve been using the kicks count app to help track movements and it’s helped stop me worrying all the time.
Sorry I can’t be more help! I’d make sure to mention it to the midwife next time you see her Smile

Yes, I’m the same. I did call the midwife/triage line on one occasion about reduced movements (feeling movement but the kicks weren’t as strong). I also have an anterior placenta and the advice given to me by the midwife I talked to was that as long as baby is moving regularly, then that’s the important thing but not to hesitate to call back and be scanned if worried. I have movements in intervals throughout the day and night (it won’t usually be more than three hours that goes by where I haven’t felt something at all). I’m 29 weeks’ pregnant tomorrow and if I haven’t felt anything strong/for a while/few hours, I’m following the sit down and have a cold drink advice and really paying attention to see if I can feel movements. Don’t know if that helps at all?!

@etaketak1991 yeah exactly it's the same for me lol I have writing him movements down and he does move well through the day but has some really quite periods and I get really confused and then he gets active again but it's just the worry creeps in, I am seeing her Thursday ao definitely will mention it to her :)

Hi OP, the literature I've read all seems to say that women should start to see a pattern from 28 weeks and that movements will increase up until around 32 weeks.
I've got an anterior placenta too and it definitely makes a big difference.
I think the fact that your little one is moving regularly is the main thing and hopefully you'll start to see a pattern forming soon.

I'm also 28 weeks. Iv started to notice a slight pattern morning, lunch, dinner and bed time. But she also has days where she really worry's me. I very nearly phoned hospital yesterday.
I went for the ice cream, chocolate, sugary food/drink and she suddenly had a party all afternoon and again in the evening.
Today she's been really really active. Definitely try the sugary foods and relax for a bit when you worry and see what happens. If not always phone for advise :)
I don't think it helps that we are shielding and have a lot of time to think and worry x

This has been my worry the entire 3rd trimester! If in doubt call the hospital and go in for monitoring. I have an anterior placenta also and when I'm on the monitor I can see the movements but I can't always feel them.

Thank you guys I had mangoes and hes been very active now lol but i do feel him regularly i guess it's just the anterior placenta that makes it a bit difficult for us to have a pattern but hopefully we all will be fine ladies:D

I'm in the exact same situation atm. Got my midwife appointment tomorrow so I'm going to ask then. I'm 28 weeks with anterior placenta and Some days I have loads of movement , others it's less and lighter, there's deffo no set pattern. Only one is really that I feel most movement from like 8pm onwards.
It's stressful!

IslayBrigid · 11/05/2020 19:18

I'm 24 weeks, first pregnancy, with an anterior placenta and been thinking about this too! I know I'm earlier on, but I thought you were start to notice a pattern from 24 weeks @sel2223? I've noticed a little bit of a pattern already over the last week or two, but like some of you say, sometimes the movements are very faint, other times they are stronger. I haven't started using a kick counter yet - is there an app people recommend? I think maybe due to anterior placenta this is why many of us feel fainter movements sometimes?

sel2223 · 11/05/2020 23:26

@IslayBrigid my midwife and the pregnancy booklet I've got both say you should feel movements by 24 weeks then start to see a pattern from 28 weeks.
I'm a FTM too but have had plenty reassurance from my midwife as the anterior placenta meant I didn't feel anything till over 22 weeks and, even now at 26+4, I have days where I feel less than other days.

Hi OP

My waters broke at 25 weeks (now 30 yay!!) and was told my baby probably wouldn't have regular movement!

Well she was absolutely right, my baby's movements pattern is basically "when he feels like it" and "lots".

My midwife said that the best thing to do is to consider your baby's movements over the course of the day, averaging it out. So has your baby moved as much overall as he did yesterday? If not or you are concerned call in!

Yesterday my baby scared the shit out of me as I realised at about 2 that I hadn't felt him move since my breakfast at 10am and then when I lay on my side I still didn't feel any movement for 40 minutes! I was just about to call my husband in when my baby started doing the conga for the rest of the afternoon! My tricksy little bugger!

I know all the books and advice say to count kicks at 28 weeks+ so I don't want to presume this is global advice and just advice for women without a pattern but she just said "what are you comparing it with? Imagine your daily life, how much did you move yesterday and how much did you move the day before, it varies"! Which I thought was a good point x

MrsRose2018 · 12/05/2020 09:31

Also just to add reduced movement is totally different to NO movement! If you have felt no movement for enough time (like I nearly did yesterday) absolutely call straight in! x

snch · 12/05/2020 18:21

I'm 25 weeks with an anterior placenta. I wouldn't say I have a pattern either. Most days I'll feel baby move on an evening from 7pm onwards which can be really scary waiting a full 24 hours for movement. Some mornings/afternoons I'll get a few kicks and some days I'll feel not much at all.

MerryDeath · 12/05/2020 21:00

my first had very little in the way of a pattern. i had an anterior placenta. he's a very healthy 3 yo now.

my second was also anterior but very reliably kicked off every evening once big boy was in bed 🤷‍♀️

jdy123 · 12/05/2020 21:31

So I had my midwife appointment today and asked her and she said same as PP where proper patterns start usually FROM 28 weeks and it's not something that everyone will have yet.
She basically said it's hard as everyone is different but as long as feeling movement, even if it's not as strong as usual then this is still good but did stress if you feel worried you need to go in for monitoring....Say if not felt anything all day.
I'll still be worrying every week lol but if I'm really worried I'm just gonna go in, best to be safe I think.
