Baby positioning - Can scans be wrong?

I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and have been told through the entire pregnancy that baby was head down. I went for a private scan last week (as I'd read research suggests a 36 week scan for positioning) and was surprised to be told baby was footling breech. I had a midwife appointment this morning and she was pretty convinced that baby is head down. I know it's entirely possible baby moved back to head down in a couple of days but surely scans are more accurate than feeling for baby?

Has anyone been in a similar position? Had a breech baby that wasn't picked up by the midwives?

TIA

I think scans are more accurate yes, my midwife told me baby was head down then a few days later my scan showed complete breech.i did think my midwife was wrong because I’d been feeling kicks on my cervix and now I know why. But yes it’s also possible to turn then turn back etc

Yep I had a midwife appointment on a Friday , she said she felt baby’s head down. Growth scan on Monday Morn baby was frank breech so I’m guessing she could feel bum and not head 🤷🏻‍♀️

My midwife told me it’s actually hard to tell 100% and she’s been doing this for 20 years . It’s also common for baby to change positions before labour and even during labour .

When I went into labour the first thing the hospital did after checking my cervix was a scan to see baby position .

Up until that point I didn’t see a point in stressing or overthinking it but that’s just my relaxed approach to labour .

Good luck !!!

Had three midwives say baby was the correct way when he was actually breech. Wasn't helped by the fact that a scan incorrect marked him as head down in the report when he was also breech then (the checked back when it was flagged after the whole fiasco and confirmed he was actually breech all along)

My first turned out to be breech and only diagnosed in labour after being told by midwifes baby was head down from quite early on.

I actually birthed baby breech with just gas and air and the birth/Barbour was great.

My second was a head down birth and there was really no difference for me.

If my 3rd baby is breech I’ll still deliver naturally.

So yes they can get it wrong x

My first was an undiagnosed breech, nobody noticed until I had been labouring in hospital for a couple of days and a consultant came to see me and she just knew without even touching me that he was breech.

A friend of mine was told she was engaged, got halfway through labour and had to have an emergency C section because the baby was coming out bum first 😰

My first pregnancy was breech from 28 weeks onwards - I had a midwife appointment at 36 weeks and she was positively joyous that the baby was head down. I phoned my husband to tell him. We then both went to a scan that afternoon - the baby hadn't turned and was still breech. So I'd definitely rely on scans!

This is what I'm a bit concerned about, as the midwives have said all along head down and said again on Monday but last friday the sonographer was certain she was footling breach. Maybe baby is just doing somersaults! Think I'll push for a scan next week as I know the risks are a wee bit higher with footling.

I have growth scans and in all baby was breech with anterior placenta. Went for a private scan and they told me baby was head down with posterior placenta... totally wrong! This was at 23 weeks, I’m not 34 weeks and baby only turned head down at 32 weeks
