Nursing Bras - Advice Please

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with my first baby and am just starting to organise myself. I have a check list here of what I need to get, and first item on list is 2-3 x nursing bras. Thing is, I've always been very flat chested (32aa) and have so far only progressed to an a-cup since being pregnant. I've noticed mostnursing bras start in a b-cup. Can anyone advise me on this? Am I still likely to increase in cup size before the baby arrives? I'm also aware that when you need to feed your breasts swell, so will I need a bra that takes this into account... Is this an item I really need to leave until the last minute? Any advise please? As I'm sure you can tell I'm a complete novice!

I was advised to leave it as long as I could and went to get measured at about 37 weeks. I went to Mothercare but not too impressed with their service.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 18/09/2007 15:48

leave it as late as poss, I would recommend getting a couple of non-sized one like this then getting measured once your milk has come in after the baby arrives.

Bravado bras are very forgiving in size, so are good when things are changing rapidly (and also comfy to sleep in).

Hi, I got measured at Mothercare too the first time round, at I think 37 weeks. I found them very good, so maybe it depends on the branch you go to! They advised me to buy one cup size bigger than I was at that point, and this was fine. So yes, I agree with waiting until 37weeks or so then buying something. My boobs didn't change size much until the last 3-4 weeks of preg, then (of course) again after the birth.

I was so hopelessly knackered after the birth that I don't think I could have faced any shopping then! I found the clips on Mothercare nursing bras very straightforward and they did them in some quite funky colours too then (not sure what current selection is like!).

Good luck with the rest of your planning!

Here are some [http://www.figleaves.com/uk/nsf/qwiseranswered.asp?page=2&searchhandle_rhs=A%253dMaternity%2BBras%2 57eB%253dMaternity%2BBras%257eD%253d12%257eG%253d4060%255e1%255e3838%255e2%257eK%253d4%257eL%253d1%2 57eM%253d2%257eN%253d3%257e&sortorderrhs=&sortorderrequested=&originalquery=Maternity+bras&size=32 b&spellercorrections=&colouranswerselected=&match=&fid=&hd=&productid=&sort_order=1&selectpagesize=1 2 b cup bras] on figleaves. If you stay an A cup maybe you could go for a crop top style bra (like the Bravado ones that MrsTittleMouse mentioned)?

I WOULD WAIT BEFORE BUYING NURSING BRA'S UNTILL 38 WEEKS. BECAUSE MY BREASTS HAVE GONE UP A CUP SIZ IN THE LAST 3 OR 4 WEEKS. WAS 38D NOW 40F

spugs · 11/10/2007 15:29

im only a AA normally though i do go up to a B when pregnant. you wil prob find that youll make itto at least a B cup when your milk comes in. best to wait till 37/38 weeks to get them though as things can change a lot even in the last few weeks.

MrsBadger · 11/10/2007 15:34

fio, even teeny girls need something to hold the damn breastpads up...
(actually, tina, if you get washable breastpads you may find they boost you a cup size anyway)

I really recommend the bravado ones

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 11/10/2007 22:27

See the top of this thread here for what you can use instead of breast pads (Lilly Padz).

Sort your nursing bra after baby has 'dropped' - your rib cage will drop down to and therefore your bra size will change. The milk will come in on Day 3 and your boobs will be gigantic for a couple of days and then drop down to simply enormous. Hard to predict at week 40 of pregnancy let alone now!

I bought a sports/crop type one from Mothercare for sleeping in whilst pg, which accommodated my changing boob size really well.

When I was 39 weeks pg I bought the most comfortable Emma Jane nursing bra from John Lewis, having been really uncomfortable in an M&S one. I increased in size from 34C to 36DD.

jamila169 · 12/10/2007 00:26

might be worth looking at Emma jane bras if you don't inflate a lot because they come up small - my 34 G's are a 36 J in emma jane so with what heated said about hers they run about 1 band size and 2 cup sizes smaller than what's on the label - I've experimented endlessly with different ones and EJ are definately smaller than everyone elses based on the fact that the same size in any other brand is miles too big!
John lewis BTW are totally the best for bra fitting - they measure, but know their brands and the fit of each one they sell so well that they can recommend exactly which ones will suit your shape.

You may find the Emma Jane 381 drop-cup nursing bra useful. They accomodate cup size from B to DD by adjusting a hook-and-eye fastener on the shoulder straps.
I don't normally have a big bust. I'm normally 34B and have gone up to 34C (I'm 38 & a half weeks), so I got a couple of these bras in size 34 to tide me over. They're made from cotton and are very comfy to wear. If my knockers get any bigger than DD cup I'll get fitted for a more supportive boulder-holder after my milk comes in.

I've also ordered a couple of similar Emma Jane cotton sleep bras (371 drop-cut sleep bra, if I remember right), which are like crop tops, and again accomodate from B to DD cup. They haven't arrived yet, so I can't advise what they're like, but will let you know.
