Tips on partner feeling kicks

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 15:08

I've got an an anterior placenta and am now 25 weeks. My partner is yet to feel anything. Is this too early or does anyone have tips for him to catch the kicks? Some are still fairly light, I have the odd big one but unless he sits with his hand on my tum 24/7 he's going to miss them. Is it just a case of waiting until further along or is there anything I can do?

I think everyone is different to be honest.
I'm 26+2 with an anterior placenta and can feel movements and kicks myself but they're not strong enough for anyone else to feel them yet.
Hoping that happens soon.

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 15:38

Some of mine a easily strong enough to be felt outside and I have recorded it for him to see my belly moving because I can visibly see it too. It's just a case of not knowing when it will happen. I don't know how people manage to catch it 🤣 @sel2223

I found mine sped up at night, so at first when it was more on and off he'd sit with his hand where most were, apply gentle pressure, and watch a film lol. Took a while but they got more frequent so he's felt a good few now.

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 16:03

I think that is part of the problem @Emberfoot he won't apply any kind of pressure ahah he's terrified of poking the baby or doing any harm. I'm not a skinny sausage as it is so there's a good old layer of podge for him to try and feel through too 🤣

Ah well you're lucky then, I haven't seen any of mine from outside yet.
Think it's probably luck catching them, is there a particular time of day when they're strongest?

Teacaketotty · 09/05/2020 16:18

I had an anterior placenta too and to be honest I didn’t see any kicks from the outside. I saw movements but not obvious kicks - I think DH maybe caught one or two but very near the end. I only made it to 36 weeks so maybe at full term I would have seen some!

InkieNecro · 09/05/2020 16:22

Spooning at night with hands on bump? I was woken by kicks in the night so they must have been able to be felt from the outside too.

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 16:23

When I'm in the bath @sel2223 always loads of movement there. But that's my time so I don't want OH in there groping my belly 🤣
@Teacaketotty maybe you would have if you'd gone full term, I've still got a way to go yet so hopefully he will feel some!

After you’ve been pottering around for a while drink a cold glass of water and lie down. You’ll have a good chance of movement.

Pineapplebaby · 09/05/2020 17:00

I also have an anterior placenta. My wife first felt our baby move at 23 weeks but that was by pure chance, as she was singing to my bump at the time (when we were in bed about the go to sleep). It was far more common from 28 weeks ish onwards that she could feel him move, and even then it was when she could quickly get her hand on my stomach when I felt him move.
Once you’re used to your baby’s pattern (mine is definitely after dinner but not too late in the evening for the biggest movements), your OH will be more likely to feel them... but will probably still take some patience!
Now, at 39 weeks, all she has to do is sing to my bump and he’ll start wriggling bless him.

Mucklowe · 09/05/2020 17:24

I'm nearly 24 weeks with anterior placenta, and I can see movement from the outside. DH reckons he still can't feel it though!

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 17:27

Thanks @ShouldWeChangeTheBulb I'll give that a whirl.
Hopefully the next few weeks and he will be able to feel something then @Pineapplebaby
Yeah I've thought a few times he should have felt it but he says he hasn't too @Mucklowe hard to tell if it's inside or outside where you feel it isn't it

Three babies, three anterior placentas and not sure if DP ever felt any of them Grin He couldn't be bothered by the third one.

In the last 6-8 weeks of pregnancy it's not so much kicks as huge movements and he'll be able to see them.

pinkyboots1 · 09/05/2020 17:48

To help my ex feel the moments I used to sit on the edge of the bed and then lie back so my feet were still on the floor (I did need help getting up and down🙄) this sort of stretched me out a bit so the movements were a bit more 'upwards'

toomuchteaandcake · 09/05/2020 17:49

I'm 32 weeks now with anterior placenta and OH has only felt them a few times tbh! The best thing we've found is when we get in bed he just lies with his hand on my belly while we look at our phones, baby normally has a bit of a party then so he usually feels some movement. Baby's kicks at the start were all low so there was little opportunity for him to feel them

MsChatterbox · 09/05/2020 17:50

I think it's possible, I have/had anterior placentas in both pregnancies and hubby felt kicks at 19 weeks. I would just lie down with him and watch a movie with his hand on my stomach!

BabyB19 · 09/05/2020 19:42

Thanks for everyone's input. Looks like it could be a bit further down the line if we're lucky. Will keep trying different things 🥰

I have an anterior placenta and the baby moves more at night so when I was about at your amount of weeks I spooned my husband in bed and he could feel the baby kicking him in the back.

NishaaS123 · 09/05/2020 22:22

I am anterior and 28 weeks my babys kicks have been pretty strong but the moment my husband puts his hand on the belly he stops moving HmmGrin been trying it so many times but the moment he touches he stops moving lol

fonxey · 09/05/2020 22:49

I had an anterior too and it took me a while to really feel the baby and longer for my other half. As my pregnancy progressed i could tell when she was about to move so head which warning to get his hand in place.
