Hi all...as title says, just wondering and looking for experiences. I'm almost 8 weeks pg and lo is almost 14mo ☺

I’m not currently breastfeeding but I conceived when my ds was 5 months old, I exclusively breastfed until I weaned him at 7 months. In fact breast milk was his main source of food until he was 9 months when he decided he’d actually eat decent size portions of actual food. I’m sure he must have dry nursed at some points but he never stopped feeding and I tandem fed until he was 3 and his brother 2. :)

Yep, 23 weeks and feeding my nearly 3 year old. She’s dropped down to just bedtime really.

Hi ladies! Thank you for your responses!
Love both of your stories.
For myself and LO it's just been so easy and we've never had the need to stop. Now only feeding in the morning and before bed.
Just a bit tired now early on in my pregnancy and sometimes feels like it's not the first thing that I was to do but I'm hoping I get my energy back soon sonit becomes more enjoyable!

Yep, 16 weeks and feeding my 2 year old. Milk has pretty much dried up and it's uncomfortable sometimes (especially at night) but she's not showing any sign of giving up!

Kezmum14 · 09/05/2020 12:49

It is tiring at the beginning but it definitely passes. Just do what makes you both happy. If you have to stop then your lo has had a really good amount of time breastfeeding, if you carry on, it’s a bonus. When you give birth, if you are still feeding let them know, I was allowed to have my 13 month old come really early 6.45am for his morning feed and again for his bedtime feed. The staff were really supportive. 🥰

Yes, 17 weeks with third baby and still feeding 1 year old DS. I found feeding a newborn exhausting both times, and so am trying to gradually stop before the baby is born because I’m not sure I could cope with tandem feeding, and I want him to have had a few months where we’ve stopped before the baby comes. Obviously if I can’t for some reason I wouldn’t go cold turkey with him I’d just continue, but I’m hoping to have phased it out by then. Had no issues though, am now only feeding at bedtime and first thing but milk supply fine for that and no pain.

Yes, almost 16 weeks with my 3rd and bf my 23.5 month old. Milk is very thick and sticky now and her latch is very uncomfortable. We’re down to a few short feeds at bedtime now. I plan to wean her once she’s two because I don’t want to tandem feed.

Banaaaaaanarama1 · 10/05/2020 09:24

Thanks again for all the fab responses everyone!
Any advice on how to wean to avoid tandem feeding?

Yes I’m 29 weeks pregnant and still breastfeeding my 18 month old. He doesn’t have much anymore but still feeds to sleep for his nap and at bedtime.

FlaskMaster · 10/05/2020 11:16

Yes, I tandem fed too. The younger baby had tongue tie which went undiagnosed for weeks, so her sucking wasn't strong enough to stimulate let down of my milk, but my then 18 month old would feed, setting off letdown and that's the only time the poor newborn got any breast milk in the early days!

Bienentrinkwasser · 10/05/2020 12:52

My (then) 18 month old weaned when I was 8 weeks. I had hyperemesis and I think he could tell that I was done. He was only feeding once in the morning at that point and they got shorter and shorter. I’m 15 weeks now and tbh my nipples are so sore that the idea of feeding him now makes me want to cry!

Banaaaaaanarama1 · 10/05/2020 13:06

Wow all of your experiences are amazing. I'm open to tandem feeding and atm only my right nipple is feeling any wear and tear while feeding but I think it's because it's our preferred (comfiest for cuddles) side and sometimes I just let 14mo just suckle away in the mornings when he wakes 😆 have really been enjoying those milky cuddles in the morning.
I think I read somewhere that at around 5 months pg milk changes taste to weaning milk, which I thought was quite curious and one of my cousins mentioned that haoorne to her with her last pregnancy and her 5yo self weaned at that point.
I didn't struggle too much getting my lo to drop his afternoon feed at about 10mo but since the two feeds he takes now are so quick and at convenient times, a part of our day really, I don't see the point in stopping. Lots of nausea and vomiting this morning though (much to his interest 😂) so hopefully that will all calm down soon and I'll feel as if I have more energy. I swear I wasn't this unwell when I was pg with him! Think I genuinely only vomited twice early on and then once during labour!

I was pregnant and bf my 3 year old. He reduced to just before bed. It was getting painful but I carried on. However I think the milk dried up so he decided to stop. I think this was within the first trimester.
After baby was born I didn't mind if he wanted to restart but he said he did but didn't try. He is still a bit interested in my boobs though (baby is 7mo)

FirstTimeBumps · 10/05/2020 14:53

16 weeks and feeding my 16mo. Thought I would have dried up by now especially as we're only down to one feed before bedtime but nope. Awful aversions though 😭

Zahra99 · 21/07/2024 03:50

Contrary to most of the comments here, I’d say don’t . If you can wean him, pls do . I didn’t miscarry but went on to have serious complications( after 10 weeks) because placenta didn’t implant well. It could be because the contractions from breastfeeding disturbed the walls of the womb. Im a young mother with no existing health conditions and had 2 healthy smooth pregnancies . However, this my third one was high risk( due to placenta issues) . My advice would be to stop if you can. Taking risk is so not worth it .

Hi. Just wondering about breastfeeding while pregnant. Is it safe in first trimester? Worried about womb contractions (esp as older mum). Any positive or negative experiences? Many thanks

Midwife and gynecologist told me it's perfectly fine in a normal pregnancy.

(I went cold turkey when I was 7/8 weeks though, it was uncomfortable and he was 2 and a half, so he had a good run 🤣)
