Low lying placenta and bleeding - when to phone hospital

I think I'm in the same boat as many others as the moment where I don't want to bother the NHS, but I've woke up this morning with some bleeding.

I'm 28 weeks today & just been to the loo and there was a clot the size of a baked bean and there's blood on wiping (but more pink than red as it's mixed with everything else!)

Is it enough to even alarmed? Or is this just a watch and see moment?

I bled a lot in my first 12 weeks and everything was OK so I don't know if this is "normal" for ME or not..

Now. There should be a number for maternity triage in your notes. They’ll usually want to see you if you have any bleeding.

Selfsettling3 · 09/05/2020 07:25

Alway ring if you have a concern.

Low lying placenta - phone now just to be on the safe side. Flowers

Mummyspider27 · 09/05/2020 07:57

Definitely call now xx

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/05/2020 08:04

I had a low lying placenta and had bleeding. Call them every time it happens.

I suspect they will ask you to go in. Take an overnight bag to leave in the car in case they want to admit you. Under normal circumstances it used to be that they would monitor you and you needed 24 hours of being bleed free to go home. I’m not sure if that will have changed but my suspicion is not.

It was scary at the time but my baby was born safe and well at 39 weeks. Just best to be on the safe side.

Just to add to the chorus of "phone now" replies. Maternity services here are being really clear that they still want to see pregnant women coming in with concerns as normal.

Hagisonthehill · 09/05/2020 08:14

All hospital maternity services are unaffected(ISH) by covid. In our hospital all women are swabbed and we have 1 HR tests for covid if you're an emergency.

Everest1 · 09/05/2020 09:21

I have low lying and was advised to call asap if any bleeding. Better to be safe xxx

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 09/05/2020 11:24

I hope you are ok op & being checked over.

Babyshine2020 · 09/05/2020 12:22

Thank you ladies, I just felt silly phoning up.

Being kept in for the night to make sure it stops! :(

Flowers I had this on & off from 20 weeks. Just celebrated their 21st. So try not to worry.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 10/05/2020 07:26

Hope you’ve had a good night & the bleeding has stopped.

Also I had steroid injections from from 30 Weeks to help with baby’s breathing if they were to be born early. Managed to get to 36 weeks even with the on/off bleeding. 🤞 for you. Flowers

Babyshine2020 · 10/05/2020 13:55

Yes it stopped! and it's my birthday so Atleast I got breakfast in bed .. NHS style 😂 baby didn't even care about the bleeding so god knows why/where it was coming from as my cervix was closed pretty damn tight!

Thank you ladies xx

That’s great. Hopefully that’s it & baby will behave. Happy birthday Cake

Mummyspider27 · 10/05/2020 17:11

Happy birthday! Breakfast in bed?! What a treat! Doubt it was a Full English though!! X

Babyshine2020 · 10/05/2020 23:40

Haha I know. Not quite the same is it!
And It had started again!
But baby is wriggling like mad so in just going to see how it is by morning. It stopped by the time I saw the doctor on Saturday (typical) so I don't want to seem like one of them people who go in at the slightest thing... it may just be normal for me?

OP posts:
Mummyspider27 · 11/05/2020 07:43

It’s not the slightest thing... it can be really dangerous, please call them again, I promise you are not wasting anyone’s time xx

AliciaWhiskers · 11/05/2020 07:49

Yes please phone every time it happens. The midwives would far rather you call than not. Is the frantic wriggling normal for your baby? If not, mention that as well

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 11/05/2020 14:46

Agree - please call every time as it can be very serious. Better to err on the side of caution.

Temple29 · 11/05/2020 14:54

I’m just home from maternity hospital for mild bleeding at 23 weeks. Related to my cervix rather than the placenta but they told me to call every single time I have bleeding so I would call again if you have problems. Happy belated birthday!

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 12/05/2020 18:03

How are you doing today op? 🤞🤞 it’s all settled down for you Flowers
