I had an EMCS 5 years ago and will be having an ELCS soon... would love to hear positive stories (the people who got out of bed soon after etc) and any tips that helped you recover quicker and easier x

I had a planned section in Feb. It was fab, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I knew about it well in advance (both of my twins were breech) so I felt really prepared and quite excited on the day. Truly felt no pain, and felt really calm throughout. They were born at midday and I had my catheter out and a small walk at 10pm. The first few days are painful but by the end of the first week I just felt really sore and by the end of the second week I was begging my GP to let me drive (she said no!!). Do try your best to take it easy over the first two weeks though, get your partner to pick up baby and pass to you etc etc.
But honestly I really loved my section! Good luck :)

I had a emergency/ planned c section. The hospital had been trying to induce me for 6 days and I was contracting but not dilating. We all had a chat and we decided that the best was I went home for the night and have a c section the next day.
It was amazing very one introduced themselves, talked through very stage. I would do it again, well I will be at the end of dec/ beginning of January.

I had a planned section after an emergency one with my first baby.

I was given a date and a time so could sort out other child with school and pick up etc.

Went in, radio on in the corner, the staff seemed as excited as I was about the birth!!
Had my spinal & baby out very soon after.
I was home 24 hours later, after 5 days was pushing my pram through the snow taking older child to school (had no one else to help, dh back to work)
Was too fat to do my coat up but my god that cold fresh air was Devine.

I recovered really fast, was pleasantly surprised at how easy and smooth it was.

Best day of my life. No pain, just a tiny bit sick which was over as soon as it started. Lovely and calm. Wishing you the very best!

Planned sections can be strangely civilised compared to other births. Was in my case. Lots of small talk, polite introductions, music playing quietly.

Then the baby is there and I got the same rush of ohmygoditsmybeautifulbaby, i had to wait to hold but dh held them right next to my face for kisses and cheek to cheek cuddles.

I've done birthing a few times. I liked the elcs. I was out of bed in hours. I was lucky that I was never really sore (do keep on top of the pain relief by taking to schedule) but I will admit that sometimes I'll be doing something physical and feel a "pull" on my scar for want of a better word.

Had an elective after previous emergency. I had my daughter at 9am. I walked around at 9pm (they said I could). I was out the next day and sliding down the slide with my son by the following day, I was so glad I could move again. It's tricky with a toddler because they want to be picked up and you're not supposed to but obviously you do. All fine.

Tip: do pilates as soon as you can with a postnatal instructor.

I had two electives due to a hip condition - second was officially an emergency, as I actually went into labour about 16 hours before the time it was fixed for!

Both were lovely, positive experiences - babies were born to music of my choice which was nice.

My top tip is don't, as I did first time, send your partner out to call everyone and tell them the good news when you're in the recovery room, as you'll be sitting there drugged up and woozy with a newborn staring at you and it's kind of discombobulating.

Despite what a lot of people say about them, I was moving about very quickly, I don't recall any problem with picking things up or with a toddler, but then DD was never very demanding of being picked up, as frankly I already couldn't pick her up much by the time she was three.

I think a lot of the stuff about long recoveries, picking up etc is more for emergency ones done after being in labour for a while and exhausted - planned ones are pretty easy, although a lot depends on the skill of obstetrician in stitching you up again - there are a few layers so anything slightly off can cause discomfort, but mine were all fine.

I had an elective section 3 weeks ago as my little boy refused to turn and came out feet first, I was absolutely petrified not only of the section but of covid 19 everybody was brilliant and I was taken down first because of how scared I was baby was born at 9.56 and I was in the shower at 8PM and discharged at 1PM the next day the pain is more the muscles but I found it had gone after a few days and only a bit tender now after i have done too much, good luck xx

Tamtam86 · 08/05/2020 21:20

I had a c section just before Christmas, it was unplanned but the lowest class "emergency" so it was very calm. Baby born at 4am, I had the catheter out at 4pm and was up and about from then, showered at about 7pm then discharged lunch time the next day. It really wasn't too bad, I had a 19 month old as well so had to pick her up from pretty much as soon as I got home - although tried to limit it as much as I could. Leaning forward was painful for a few days so I delegated nappy duties to DH Wink

I had one in June and it was fab. Really relaxed, I had my own playlist of music throughout. I had mine at 2pm and I was up walking around the next morning. They encouraged me to get moving as quickly as I could as it speeds up the recovery. I was amazed how quick the recovery was and I didn’t have any pain after except having to pull myself up sometimes! I’ve not had an emergency csection to compare, but I had a very positive experience and I would not be worried if I was going to have another

These are great positive stories thank you.

@Reversiblesequinsforadults going down a slide 2 days later is quite an achievement!!! Xx
