Low TSH at 10 weeks- what to expect?

Hello everyone! Smile First post here!

I had my 10 week prenatal appointment yesterday and in my bloodwork the TSH levels came back close to the lower limit (0.3). My doctor is concerned about hyperthyroidism so i booked an appointment with a specialist on Tuesday.

Doctor said it could be normal but should be looked into to make sure, as hyperthyroidism poses health risks for the baby.

I'm looking for a piece of mind until then Sad. Has anyone had low TSH sometime around 10 weeks? How did it turn out?

TIA Flowers

I have Graves Disease so I’m hyperthyroid but I was diagnosed pre pregnancy. My thyroid has been very up and down. My TSH was 0.01 when I was diagnosed last year. I was put onto medication but when I fell pregnant it shot up to over 9. I was taken straight off my medication and 4 weeks later when I was 10 weeks it was 0.02. I’m back on a very low dose of medication now and despite all the ups and downs I’m now 14 weeks and my scan looked good. I’m seeing an endocrinologist every 4 weeks where they will review my medication dose. The medication I’m on is safe for pregnancy and my endocrinologist doesn’t seem too concerned as long as my levels are managed for the rest of pregnancy.
Your TSH is towards the lower end of normal but within a normal range. I would expect you to be monitored regularly to check it doesn’t go lower. You might be put on a low level of medication but there is one that is perfectly safe. I think there are risks of pre eclampsia or a small baby so it may be that you get extra check ups and scans. I have a consultant appointment at 28 weeks to discuss this. Yours honestly isn’t that bad though so try not to worry.

I had a Total Thyroidectomy last year due to Graves' Disease and I feel pregnant 6 months after. I'm on just Levothyroxine and my TSH had been high and low and I'm monitored every 4-6 weeks. I'm now 35 weeks and I have extra growth scans just to double check everything. I wish you well and try not to worry Smile x

Ooh thank you both! SmileFlowers Being a FTM I was worried sick. Feeling better already.

Will update this thread once i get some answers. Hope this issue resolves itself without medication as pregnancy progresses as i haven't had any throid issues before.

Sometimes pregnancy causes your thyroid to behave a bit out of whack. I was told that this is due to baby using up your own thyroid hormones. I figure as long as he is getting what he needs then I'll deal with the symptoms & meds. I was worried initially but you're in great hands and it's quite a common problem Smile x

Got back from the doc :)

Good news! - my TSH has risen a bit (0.55) and antibodies, T3, T4 are all within normal limits Grin Thankfully they won't have to call me back for a thyroid ultrasound phew
