Hello All

First time mum here looking for some recommendations for pram / travel system.

With lockdown we are struggling to just buy online without seeing or getting advice so any support you lovely ladies can give would be amazing

I had the silver cross wayfarer travel system with DD almost 4 years ago and I will be using it again this time Around it’s brilliant! Although only downside is it’s still quite large when folded!

sel2223 · 08/05/2020 11:26

The advice i got was to work out how you will actually be using it and what your main requirements are as it's not a 'one size fits all

Do you need a full travel system (I.e. a car seat that attaches to the pram) or could you buy a car seat separately?
How compact does it need to be when folded down? Do you have a big/small car?
Do you do a lot of walking on different terrains or is it more a city pram you need? Does it need to be particularly lightweight? Will you be on and off public transport all the time?

Work out your individual requirements as a starting point and that should help you narrow the choices down a bit.

I went for a Joolz Day 3.

Shanlou12 · 08/05/2020 11:32

@sel2223 good advice
I only got travel system also because there was a deal at time where I got car seat for free heheheh
But yes it folds quite big

Cherryrainbow · 08/05/2020 11:53

If you Google or YouTube the brand/make of anything you see online there's usually good video reviews or clips of how they fold etc. So it gives you a rough idea about size, easy too fold etc.

itsnotcakeitsbaby · 08/05/2020 12:35

I have Ickle Bubba Stomp, it fold down pretty compact and is free standing when folded, you can also fold down with the seat attached (not carry cot). It's got good suspension and large basket underneath. Carry cot not suitable for overnight sleeping though.

@itsnotcakeitsbaby - firstly love the name and which one do you have v3 or v4?

I found this offer - £500 but not sure 🤔

@Zaalfruit I have v3, the only differences i could see really with the v4 were the quilted cover and the material on the hood. I got it for just under £500 on their website with car seat and isofix base.

Cosatto Giggle...

Pineapplebaby · 08/05/2020 13:15

We went for the Cosatto Wow, Fjord.
Didn’t need/want the car seat as it’s safer to not leave baby in a car seat any longer than absolutely necessary, so we bought a separate car seat that will last longer.
We chose that one as it’s really light, really easy to use (single click to remove the bassinet for example), folds flat and fits perfect in our car. The carrycot is also suitable for occasional overnight sleeping (not that we’re going anywhere anytime soon but we didn’t know that when we bought it!)
If you’re going to be doing a lot of walking off road for example though, it would be too bumpy for the baby and you’d need something more robust.

T0rt0ise · 08/05/2020 13:26

Tbh it completely depends on your needs. We have the mountain buggy terrain and bassinet and cybex cloud z car set because we spend (normally) most of our lives outdoors and will use it for running when he gets to six months. However, t would be completely overkill for a lot of people.

Hi guys thanks for all your feedback
We are relatively active so would want to be light and foldable. We have a corsa and a saloon car

For me it was always going to be silver cross. We had the pioneer and loved it.

Buns05 · 08/05/2020 16:01

Has anyone got the Joie Dlx chrome? What's anyone think of it?

BeHappyAndSmile · 08/05/2020 18:44

We bought the bugaboo cameleon 2nd hand on ebay, its really light, easy to put up and down (although I did accidentally lock it into 2 wheel mode before handing it over to be stored at in laws house. No idea how 😂) and it folds down small enough to fit in the boot of a mini. I would highly recommend buying 2nd hand if you are OK with that, you can get some absolute bargains and it doesn't seem so bad if baby doesn't like being in it at first then.

MrsJaneyp · 08/05/2020 19:09

@BeHappyAndSmile if I'm honest we are wanting to go down the second hand rate because I don't think we will be able to afford a brand new one

OP posts:
Zaalfruit · 08/05/2020 22:11

@itsnotcakeitsbaby thank you - I rally was struggling to see the difference ! I really wanted some light weight and affordable for me the silver cross and the bugaboo are so nice but out of my budget currently. I really under estimated how expensive baby items are.

BeHappyAndSmile · 09/05/2020 10:18

@MrsJaneyp honestly in my opinion 2nd hand is ideal. It saves you money so you've got more to save and help when you really need it (when baby's actually here!), plus if you keep an eye out you get some amazing stuff. We saved probably £500-£600 on our pram and it was mint condition barely used.

Although people can be weird about you buying 2nd hand especially if its a first baby Confused makes no sense to me but each to their own.

MrsJaneyp · 09/05/2020 13:16

@BeHappyAndSmile I agree. The only difficulty we have is understanding what one to get second hand as we didn't look at any of them before lockdown. Mainly because I've had a couple of miscarriages and I didn't want to tempt fate etc

You need to think about how you will use it eg public transport/in a city/on muddy paths/tracks or to run with? As well as being able to fold it and wanting something light, that’s your starting point.

A bugaboo cameleon doesn’t fold that small unless you take the wheels off which would a) be a pain in the neck to do every time you want to put it in the car and b) even more of a pain when the wheels are wet and muddy. It also doesn’t fold as a one piece so you have to take the seat/carrycot part off to fold it which if you intend to use public transport a lot is really tricky. Having said that it is still a really good pushchair and really nice to push, but whether or not it is suitable for you entirely depends on your lifestyle.
