Bleeding from bum

Very embarrassing post. But since yesterday I went to the toilet and it hurt to do a number two. Bright red blood on the tissue when I wiped and caused me to panic. Then noticed it was coming from my bum. I think I have piles. But I have had bleeding when wiping even between bowel movements. Should I give my doctors a call?

Yup, GP is probably your best bet (I’m not sure if midwives will deal with this). Really common in pregnancy so don’t be embarrassed! There are various creams that can help a little but generally they only get better after pregnancy. Usually the GP would do a quick check to just make sure it is that. Pregnancy is such fun huh?!

Midwife can deal with this IME 👍

Try a little Sudocream on your anus.
I thought I had piles for years but it turns out that I just needed a bit of lubrication to ease things through.

Coconut oil is also great to keep the whole area lubricated, it’s cheap and also vagina friendly

You can get anusol stool softening suppositories to pop up there and help things soften as they come out!

Well done for asking - we should all talk about this more, everyone gets them!

It’s best to treat Piles as early as possible, and continue to treat them throughout pregnancy and beyond x

It could either be piles or fissures, which are little tears in the anus from passing hard stools.
I've had bleeding from the bum in ridiculous amounts this pregnancy, so don't be embarrassed. It's extremely common!

I bought some Lactulose from pharmacy to soften my poos a little so it doesn't hurt too much to pass them. And just drink crap loads of water, sip continuously, it will help!

The best thing I heard was that bum problems usually get better from about 6 weeks after birth so fingers crossed!!

I'm having the same - quite a spectacular amount of blood this afternoon, was a bit alarming. Need to get back on the lactulose I think, but going to book a GP appointment next week if it carries on.

Lactulose or movicol to soften things up and LOADS of fluids through the day.

Could be piles, haemorrhoids or anal fissure (a little tear). I’ve had the latter before and was prescribed an anal pessary and cream to help heal, and told not to strain. Best to call your GP, or midwife, who can refer you if you can’t get through to GP.

Suppository! That’s the word I was looking for (not anal pessary 🙈).
