Being induced and pain relief

Hi,

I am due in 5 weeks and I am trying to prepare myself as well as I can for the birth. Ultimately, I plan to have an Epidural I think, although I am open to see what happens on the day. I welcome all pain relief, however I am not sure I want anything that can make me feel woozy as I don't cope with that feeling very well.

In the event of being induced I have heard that things can ramp up straight away so would it be wise to ask for an Epidural straight away or would they not allow that because I know some women can be induced but then labour can then take hours/days to establish?

Any experiences on this would be most welcome, thanks x

Hi, this is not a boast, just something that might make you feel better........I had no line relief, and at no point did I think I couldn't carry on........your body does some crazy stuff and I think it's really helpful if you try not to let panic run away with itself.........x

My advice if you are induced on the drip; ask for an epidural straight away. I stupidly didn't until the pain was unbearable and then took pethidine instead because I could have that instantly whereas an epidural takes a while to set up. And wow! If you don't want woozy, avoid pethidine at all costs! I felt totally out of it. Also gas and air can make you feel a bit drunk although it wears off quickly. Personally, I would opt for an epidural if I ever had to give birth again and I would be demanding it as soon as I felt things ramping up! But maybe I just have a low pain threshold!

I was induced and ended up having to go on the drip due to my daughter having passed meconium-they found out when they broke my waters. I asked for an epidural straight away and got it, the midwife told me that they recommended it anyway in those circumstances.

I had an epidural pretty much straight away when I was induced... Best thing ever!!! I did end up having an emergency c section as she was in distress. When I next have a baby I am definitely having the epidural!!
