Extreme tiredness in early pregnancy

Hi so I'm only 4/5 weeks pregnant, can anyone share if they felt extreme tiredness this early? I am 39 and my daughter is 10 😩 so wondering if my body is just exhausted, I am coeliac as well so unsure if that's not helping! Feel like I've been hit with a bus, also really stressing about the stats with regards to birth defects in (older) mums ... anyone else feel this? X

Yes, definitely. Crushing exhaustion and banging headache for the first few weeks. 39 isn’t that old, try not to disasterise. Most likely outcome is a healthy baby. And if something does show up on the scans or bloods, deal with it then. You clearly have zero energy to worry - sleep!

WeveGottaGetTherouxThis · 06/05/2020 22:17

It was my worst pregnancy symptom by far. On the whole, I loved being pregnant...all except for that absolute exhaustion at the beginning! Rest when you can

absolutezero0k · 06/05/2020 22:18

Same here for both pregnancies - such hard work! Really normal. Get as much she'll add you can and congratulations.

I had my 3DC at 37, 39 and 41. Each time I was exhausted from before I even did a pregnancy test until about 2.5 years after they were born. I could manage about half a day then needed to sleep all afternoon. Three very healthy babies!

HalloumiSalad · 06/05/2020 23:23

I did, I was 34, healthy and training for a marathon... it was so sudden and strong, one day I could run over ten miles and hardly notice the next I couldn't even climb the stairs without a rest 😂😂
I was falling asleep at the drop off a hat constantly. I looked up one of those timelines that show what baby is doing now and it said it was growing eyelashes... I concluded that eyelashes are exhausting to build. 😁

I’m 7 weeks with my second and have never felt as tired as I have the past 2 weeks there’s no words for it haha completely normal

NicNac100 · 07/05/2020 07:25

Yes, from about 5/6 weeks to about 12 I was shattered, it would get to about 8.30pm, I'd be sat on the sofa and within seconds just crashed out fast asleep, no control it was almost like narcolepsy Grin And required so much of it too about 9hrs a night! - at least back then it was decent long sleeps - now I'm 37 weeks I'm not sleeping much at all due to aches and pains and having a big bump to manoeuvre in bed :) But yes, first trimester zapped me! Hit 12 or 13 weeks and got all my energy back, second trimester I barely even felt pregnant :)

NicNac100 · 07/05/2020 07:27

PS I'm 39 too, I'll turn 40 a week or so after baby is born so please don't worry about age and birth defects, my midwife said they barely even bat an eyelid at mums in their late 30's anymore it's so common x

Nelbert19 · 07/05/2020 08:32

I’m 32 and was sleeping 16 hours a day in my first trimester! I’m now 28 weeks and still struggle if I don’t get my 90 minute afternoon nap after my 8 hours of sleep at night!

I used to be an insomniac...!

kfcplease · 07/05/2020 08:39

Yep. I was exhausted before I tested which was why my OH told me to do a test! I'm napping in the day time which I never do my dd is 6 but she's an easy child. Just not sure I want to swap tiredness with morning sickness Envy

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/05/2020 08:43

When I was pregnant at 19, I was completely blown over with exhaustion. I have bad flare ups of anaemia but pregnancy exhaustion is worse for me. I’m pregnant again now (I’m 26 now) and it was awful again. Couldn’t stay awake beyond 8. I even fell asleep in the theatre. Blush I’ve never done that before!

Tonimacaroni1920 · 07/05/2020 08:44

I was really tired and falling asleep on the couch/ on public transport, which is really unusual for me! I thought it was just a symptom of pregnancy, so put up with it. When I was tested for anaemia at my 12 week appointment, apparently I was very anaemic- as soon as I got given the iron tablets, I felt amazing. It might be worth trying to speak to a GP, just in case. Hope you feel better.

Hill1991 · 07/05/2020 09:37

When I was pregnant I had extreme tiredness to the point I used to fall asleep at work (good job my boss wasn't too bothered and used to find it amusing when he had to come and wake me up) but it's was an absolute killer lasted the whole pregnancy.

Superscientist · 07/05/2020 10:00

Yep me too! I'm 32 and went from running 2-3 times a week, cycling to and from the train station to not being able to move from the sofa for the entire weekend having done a food shop on Saturday morning.
I'm 25 weeks now and it has improved a little bit, but I think that is more the lockdown reducing what I have to do. I can manage wandering around the house and the odd 20 minutes exercise video but still find myself sofa bound some days.

I had such high hopes that I could be one of those people that maintain their previous lifestyle /exercise!!

lamypye · 07/05/2020 10:52

Thank you everyone at least it's not just me 😩

I'm 11 weeks, was fine up to 6 weeks and then... zonk. All I wanted to do was sleep between 6 and 9 weeks. Sometimes i slept 16 hours a day. I am 38, was in peak physical condition as was training for a marathon, but now i can barely walk up the stairs without feeling tired. I am beginning to improve now - still tired, but more of a normal tiredness rather than sheer exhaustion.

Littlegoth · 07/05/2020 11:31

I’m still exhausted at 19 weeks.

Waiting for this burst of energy I’ve been promised 😄 x

Littlegoth · 07/05/2020 11:31

I’m 38 x
