Driving test at 36 weeks - help!

Sorry, not sure if this is the right place for this thread. I'm just panicking and could do with a bit of moral support. I've got my driving test tomorrow and I'm 36 weeks pregnant, feeling enormous, tired and emotional and I'm SO scared about it!

I've spent so much money on driving lessons and I really want to pass so I don't have to struggle with prams on public transport all the time. I just don't feel very confident.

Any tips? Has anyone else done their test while heavily preggers? Do you think the examiner might pass me because he feels so sorry for me ?

Also, any tips for calming nerves when pg? Are there any herbal things like rescue remedy that are safe to take and which really work?

Wish me luck

Oh no! That's totally rubbish - I am so sorry. What a weird thing to be failed on. Sounds like you will get through it no probs the next time though. It took me years to get my license - you will get there in the end.

Do something nice for yourself this afternoon - can't have unhappy bumps!

lemonaid · 18/09/2007 13:17

I'm sorry. You know you can drive. It's just passing the test. See if you can book several tests in quick succession next time. Once you can get used to taking the test and not get so stressed you are bound to pass. You're probably just giving off "I am a really nervous driver" vibes at the moment, when really you're just a really nervous test taker.

Actually, any chance you can sneak in another test before you have the baby? Strike while the iron is hot and all that...

missbumpy · 18/09/2007 13:23

Thanks everyone. I'd love to try to do another test before the baby comes but I live in London and it seems to take about 2 months to get a test date here.

I can't stop crying now I know I'm being stupid but I think it's just the pregnancy hormones playing havoc.

You're right Stefka, I should go and do something nice because it's not good for the bump for me to be this stressed and upset. Maybe I'll go and sit in the park and eat cake or something.

Sorry to hear you didn't pass this time Bumpy

I agree you should try and get another test booked ASAP (maybe a cancellation?).

In the meantime, just hold your head up and focus on what you failed on so that next time you will know what the examiner is looking for.

Now it's deffo time to sit in the park and eat cake. Lots of it.

Chin up sweetie!

lemonaid · 18/09/2007 14:55

It's worth phoning regularly to see if there's an earlier date available -- you might get a cancellation. And then you wouldn't have so long to get worked up about the test in advance.

oxocube · 18/09/2007 17:10

Oh, what a shame. Sounds like you were almost there. Good luck for next time, and with baby obviously

missbumpy · 18/09/2007 17:15

Thank you

hi sorry you failed i know the feeling!!!
i failed gears thing on 5th test only had 5 minors too it was so silly i live in london too well croydon so you only ever drive around in 2nd or at a push 3rd as always trafficjams.
book another test even if its for 2 months time then go onto web site and go on check test date and look for a cancelation you can then change your date upto three times i did this yesterday and about every 20mins a cancelation came up thats how i got one for sat

missbumpy · 18/09/2007 18:55

Really? I looked on the DSA website and I couldn't work out how to get a cancellation. So do I just take the first date available even if it's in 2 months and then is there a way of checking for cancellations and bringing it forward?

Good luck for Saturday!

I'm feeling like a stupid, preggers, hormonal lady. I keep on bursting in to tears

i passed 3rd time. First time I failed as I had to cut someone up otherwise I would have ended up on motorway as car infront cut us up
I just rang everyday, and I got cancelled tests within 2 weeks. Ring up and keep ringing
Good luck
Lisa

Caz10 · 18/09/2007 21:38

So sorry missbumpy. I would 2nd the advice given here and try and do it again in the next week or so if you can. God they really seem to fail you on tiny things don't they?

Can I ask the people who have phoned for cancellations - do you call the DVLA central booking thing, or call the test centre itself? (just thinking positively and presuming I will fail hee hee! This will be 3rd time for me too, but the 1st 2 attempts were about 10yrs ago).

ELR · 19/09/2007 09:01

missbumpy- i just went to practical test then booked one once you have booked you then go to check a test you key in details it asks
licence no
theory ref no
booking ref no
you must key in two out of three of these then it brings up your test details click on the bit where it says check for different dates it then brings up the dates at the test center you are booked at, you can check other centers too or just keep on rechecking untill you get a date you want when you find a date you click on it then next and it will ask you to confirm changes, good luck
I am really nervous about sat feel sick already and its only wed!!
Dh taking me out tonight when he gets in from work so can practice manouvers

Caz10 · 19/09/2007 20:22

missbumpy are you going to try again?

Good luck with manoeuvres ELR I am feeling as I cocked all of mine up last night, after weeks of doing them perfectly, sure it's test nerves starting already.

missbumpy · 19/09/2007 21:40

I will Caz but not until after the baby comes. I feel way too pregnant to try again now!

As for manoeuvres, a good tip I learned from my instructor is not to practice manoeuvres on the day of the test. I know it sounds weird but it's true. You'll be too nervous, you might cock it up, then you'll go into your test feeling like you can't do it. It's better to practice the day before and then just go for it on the day.

Good luck!

i passsed at last !! i almost kissed the examinor had 4 minors had the same route as last time and same corner but was ok this time!!!

Caz10 · 23/09/2007 10:33

Me too! Well done ELR. 3rd time lucky seems to be true for me, even if it has taken the best part of 10 years... . My reverse parking was dodgy but thankfully I only got a minor fault for it, she basically said that because the rest of the drive was ok she let me off with it, whereas I would have failed on it otherwise. Phew, feel like I got through by the skin of my teeth (but do I care?!!)

Good luck everyone who is still learning or has a test coming up. It has been the bane of my life for so long, I still don't like driving, but it is worth persevering just for that feeling of relief - no more lessons!!

missbumpy · 23/09/2007 10:39

Well done Caz10 and ELR!!! I'm slightly but really pleased for you both. I'm going to try again once I've got the minor matter of childbirth out of the way !

OP posts:
ELR · 23/09/2007 10:40

well done caz, i touched the curb on my reverse round corner too but i stayed calm and sorted it out and thankfully he just gave me a minor for it, this was my 7th test but only been driving since may it was taking over my life i am so pleased its over
Goodluck to everyone else!!

ELR · 23/09/2007 10:42

missbumpy good luck with baby- honestly when you have the baby you will be so pleased you really wont mind about driving plus think of the weightloss if you have to walk!!

Caz10 · 23/09/2007 11:36

It really does take over your life, you are so right. And don't worry re feeling missbumpy, I have been feeling that way of other people for so long! Plus I felt like it was so embarrassing, like, everyone else can do it, what is wrong with me?!
You WILL do it, I now feel like I am living proof of ANYONE can!
Remember that Welsh lady in the driving lessons programme years ago? I make her look good!

missbumpy · 23/09/2007 12:49

No, seriously, I'm really pleased for you both and you're right ELR, hopefully the weight will drop off if I'm pushing a pram around everywhere!!

I'm determined I'll pass one day
