What clothes will your June babies be wearing?

My first baby was a January baby so it was quite easy to know what to buy. This time round, I was unsure what such a small baby should be wearing so googled it and it mainly said thin cotton rompers.

I had a phone call with the health visitor yesterday and she reminded me that babies should have one extra layer on than you. So now I’m confused.

So what clothes are you planning to dress your June babies in?

My own June baby back when he was born was in just an harmless legless cotton romper and he still sweated like anything. It'll depend on what our summer will be like I guess (that particular summer was a daily 30'c -er so cotton was a godsend for him).

*armless

He was also in just nappies a lot with no clothing as it was so relentlessly baking.

Mine was an late April baby 2 years ago - it was a hot year and by June he spent most of his time in just a short sleeved bodysuit.
Bare in mind I could have happily sat there naked in such hot weather, I guess that counts as an ‘extra’ layer 🤷‍♀️

Bubblesbubblesmybubbles · 06/05/2020 08:48

One extra layer than you, if you're still hot in what you're wearing then they can wear the same amount of layers

You'll soon get the hang of it, if they get cold they will let you know

My first baby was born in June. It was really hot that year so mainly just a bodysuit! Bodysuit and or babygro depending on how hot it is really.

Thanks everyone, I’m not worried generally as I’ve got plenty of stuff that I can layer up if needed. It’s more that I’m trying to work out what I should be putting in the hospital bag.

Following! Like you OP, my first was born in January and my second is due in June. I've bought some short sleeved/legged rompers and still have the long sleeve/legged bodysuits from before, so hoping to get away with those. It's so difficult as the weather is so unpredictable! 🙂

Dingdongthewitchisbread · 06/05/2020 11:49

@Longfox it’s confusing isn’t it! Are you just going to pack some of each?

I'm due in June I've brought lots of summer baby rompers short arms and legs 0- 3 months as it will be warm and hot during those first 3 months

Maybelatte · 06/05/2020 12:21

I had a June and also August baby, this one will be July. Thin cotton baby grows are fine and on particularly hot days, just a bodysuit. Summer hat will be necessary and a few light cardigans for cooler days.

FirstTM2020 · 06/05/2020 12:24

Hey🥰

Im due in 5 weeks and live in scotland so although its suppose to be nice weather the chances are it will snow 😂 (jokes but not far from it)

So ive went with the normal sleepsuits and bought some short sleeves rompers just incase. Worst comes to the worst a nappy woth a short sleeve vest and a thin blanket when he's chilling will be ok 🤷🏽‍♀️ FTM here winging it!! X

Lavenderpurple · 06/05/2020 12:27

I had an end of May baby in 2018! She spent her days in just a nappy. If we went out I’d usually just put her in a vest as it was so hot.

Longfox · 06/05/2020 13:36

@dingdongthewitchisbread I think so, I'm usually a really light packer, but I think it will look like I'll be staying for a week when I turn up with my hospital bag 🤣 At least in January, you know it's going to be cold ..... June? Who knows 😀

OnlyToWin · 06/05/2020 13:40

My July baby had so many lovely clothes and spent her first few months mainly in a nappy with a bodysuit for bed! I also put a fan near her cot to keep her cool. The problem was it was boiling when I put her to bed then the temperature would drop during the night so I ended up adding an extra layer when I fed her.

Maryann1975 · 06/05/2020 13:42

When you say about packing, I wonder if you mean in hospital? I’d pack vests and baby grows as normal. Dd was born in April and by June was wearing summer dresses and short legged romper suit things, but also had some long leggings as not all summer days are hot.

A little cardigan over whatever outfit they are wearing will count as an extra layer.
