Hi all. My hayfever allergies have started and my itching eyes are getting worse everyday. I'll call my GP tomorrow but is there anyone else here suffering with hayfever? Do you take any medication or have any other methods to ease the symptoms?
Every year it kicks off in May and won't pass until July. 😢

Normally yes but now that I'm pregnant I don't. Mine only lasts two weeks though, so much easier to get through than months like you. The medicin they normally prescribe me (it tends to differ each year which one) does work really well.

Definitely speak to your GP. I suffered for ages thinking I couldn't take anything then eventually spoke to GP and was prescribed a steroid nasal spray and an inhaler. They can also give you eyedrops (my eyes were fine). Of course, a few days after the getting the medication my symptoms disappeared anyway (I think I'm only allergic to certain types of tree pollen) Hmm

I asked my midwife and she said piriton is fine to take. I've read other people say they've been given it for various other things in hospital so might be worth asking about it. I think it's only available over the counter and I don't think pharmacists like selling it without a prescription so maybe send someone else to buy it for you!

*selling it to pregnant women i should say

Thank you all. It is strange because my eyes have started to be itchy and I'm indoors. The other symptoms are not bothering me much like sneezing and runny nose. I also feel very tired and fatigue but not sure if it's the allergies or the pregnancy. 🤷‍♀️
Haven't been out of the house in 3 dsys.

Loratidine considered first choice if taking tablets. Can buy off the shelf in the supermarket.

I ve been using a saline spray which helps the congestion and if my eyes get worse I m going to start using the drops . All the "safer" antihistamines in pregnancy aren't very effective on me before pregnancy so don't want to take them now.

I feel for you. I've just had it awfully with tree pollen but mine has eased now. The GP can give you some things to help. I assume you're doing all the obvious things. Keeping windows shut, drying clothes indoor, changing clothes if you've been out, washing hair every night? Those things really helped me!

That can happen more easily when the weather has been quite dry. Rain washes a log of pollen out of the air. With dry weather they keep floating around anx can come in through windows and doors. Try to keep everything shut in dry weather.

I've also been using a saline spray as can't use my trusty beconase, I have had a terrible blocked and bloody nose all through pregnancy from about 7w! It's been very annoying!

The saline spray isn't quite as good but does help

dementedpixie · 06/05/2020 12:00

I'm sure beconase can be used in pregnancy. Have you checked with your gp. NHS site says corticosteroid sprays are ok
