Dehydration

Hi

Just wondering if anyone can help, I’m 6 + 4 and have been suffering with morning sickness really bad these last few days. I’m starting to get concerned about dehydration as I’ve been struggling to eat and drink. I haven’t been sick today but really nauseous, I’m trying to drink as much water as I can but concerned it’s not enough (I’ve never been a big water drinker anyway).

When I stand up after being sat for a while I go a little dizzy, I’m going for a wee a couple of times a day and don’t really have the urge to and when I do it’s pretty dark. I rang the doctors yesterday and they said if it’s not 12 hours between each wee then it’s ok. But that seems like a long time?! Sorry maybe too much info here just not sure if I’m being a bit dramatic or whether I should ring doctors again tomorrow.

I have severe sickness and nausea again with this pregnancy and last and found sipping ice cold apple juice has helped. I can't drink a full cup of water without throwing up but I can manage a few sips per half hour of apple juice which I can sip water in between

If you are suffering still in a few days I would call your gp again for anti sickness medication just so you can manage to drink more.
Nobody wants to be hospitalised for dehydration right now!

Other things that may help being weak or sweet tea, peppermint tea, weak squash, sucking ice cubes, flat full fat coke in moderation as its not really that hydrating and has caffeine.. Fizzy flavoured waters or ginger ale, broth

Try just sipping rather than forcing too much at a time

Good luck. Hope you feel better soon

Thanks, went to doctors and said my ketones were showing as 1 plus so said if I can try and drink 3-4 litres a day then I should be able to rehydrate myself!
I just can’t eat/drink until about 1-2pm then it seems to get slightly easier! Hopefully it’s a case of figuring out what works and what doesn’t!

Thanks for the advice will definitely give them a try!

I had really severe morning sickness week 6-11 and struggled to keep liquids down and was really worried about dehydration. My GP told me to sip a tea spoon of dioralyte every 20mins or so until I’d worked through a pint or whatever the solution amount was. I could usually manage ice pops from the corner shop which were a life saver when even the smell of tap water was making me puke!! I was never a big drinker before being pregnant and I’ve had to try really hard to drink more even now I’m not feeling so sick. Good luck
