So today I was told my placenta is covering the birth canal and I will have further scans etc..... And could be a chance of a c section not really what I fancy, so what are the chances it will move??

How many weeks are you? Of low lying placentas at 20 weeks, only around 5% will still be low lying at term. The other 95% will move away as the lower segment of the uterus grows.

I had this twice. I had two C sections and they were fine. Most move, some don’t and there isn’t much you can do about them. But some placenta previas bleed (mine did) so you might need to abstain from sex.

How far along are you? I had complete Previa at my 20 week scan. Bleed at 26 weeks. Moved slightly by 32 weeks but still low lying. I'm 35 weeks now and no more bleeds. You'll need a C-section if it hasn't moved enough yes, and to get to maternity if any bleeding, I was told to 999 which I did and an ambulance arrived in minutes

Is it covering or just low lying? Mine was just low lying and moved well out of the way but I think it's less likely if it's complete.

Sorry forgot to add Im 21 weeks..... They told me to give sex a miss until I've spoken to consultant and due to being resus neg if I bleed to get in touch straight away...
So hoping it does move 🤞 I've another scan next month, c section feels like it would be so much harder and longer in hospital??

@GroEggAndHam completely covering she said, I asked what the likely hood of movement is and her reply was well they will check but prepare that a section is a possible

Mine moved and I still ended up with an emergency c section. I know it's not ideal but if yours doesn't move, c sections aren't that bad 😊

MamaBearThius · 05/05/2020 20:45

This will be my second C-section, first one was semi emergency, and honestly isn't the end of the world. If no complications you can go home the next day in most cases it seems.

strawberry2017 · 05/05/2020 20:54

I'm having a planned section tomorrow afternoon and will be out on Thursday morning first thing unless there's a medical reason to keep us in.
C-sections don't have to mean a longer recovery, they can be really positive experiences.
They won't keep you in longer then needed. X

I've always been home same day with other babies..... Really hate the idea of having to be in hospital at all but know if needs must I will have to x

Also I keep reading about bleeds are these really common?

Oooh congratulations @strawberry2017, exciting!
Needs must is the right attitude to have, it'll be what it needs to be to keep you and baby safe. I don't think the bleeds are common, just very important to be aware of the urgency to get medical help. Hopefully yours is in a different position next scan Smile
