Posterior vs anterior

Hey,

Ftm here. Quick question as I'm slightly confused. Is there a difference between anterior and posterior placenta? I've been diagnosed with a posterior placenta, however when communicating with health care workers they use both terms interchangeably and I'm slightly confused now.

Yes, posterior = back, anterior =front.

Although it's not quite that clear cut. All 5 of my pregnancies had anterior placentas, but it was a slightly different place each time (from memory top left, central, lower left, mid right, low right). The only real difference it can make is an anterior can make movements slightly more difficult to detect early on.

I’m not sure you are ‘diagnosed’ with a posterior/anterior placenta. I think it’s just where it is. I’ve also got a posterior placenta.

Posterior is behind the baby and anterior is in front. It’s not a diagnosis, it’s literally just where your placenta implanted and means nothing.
