Hello I was just wondering if personal experiences / opinions please...
Basically I'm only 24 and this is my second pregnancy (4 year old daughter) and I got a high score when they screened for downs 1:97, it would also appear the baby is a boy which my family can't seem to carry we miscarry my sister managed to go full term but then her son was still born, I'm really unsure if I should take the risk of the test or not, I mean no matter what I'd be keeping my baby and have always been against the test personally but now I'm wondering if maybe I should have it so I can be prepared physically and mentally, have time to try and explain to my daughter etc I'm completely torn can someone please help ?

My mum had a very high score with me and never had the test and I was fine but this was 24 years ago and she was 41 when she had me

If you wouldn’t terminate then I would just wait and see.
So sorry your sister had a stillborn, that must have been so difficult.
Family history is very important, but it doesn’t mean you will go through the same thing. I’m sure your midwife will be keeping an extra close eye on you. Just try and workout the pattern of when your baby kicks and be aware of movement.
Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy xx

Would you consider NIPT (such as harmony)? It is a simple blood test and is still classed as a screening test but is much, much more accurate and carries no risk to baby. You will probably have to pay (around £400) but may be worth it for peace of mind. You get the results in around 2 weeks or less.

I'll add that I had a high risk combined screening but the scan was good so NIPT was a good option as I was reluctant to have an amnio. The results of the NIPT were low risk so I decided not to opt for amnio in the end. My baby isn't here yet but scans continue to be good and there is no cause for concern.

Thank you for your replies I was leaning towards it but I've spoke to my mother in law and now I think I'm leaning against it, I think my main worry is how to explain things to my daughter
