Am I likely to have an anterior placenta again?

I realise it's probably one of those things you can't predict, but I'm interested to know how likely it is that I might have an anterior placenta this pregnancy after having it in my first (and only) pregnancy?
I'm really hoping I dont this time as it took a long while for me to feel kicks, and it took ages before I was showing and even when I did get a bump it wasn't a lovely rounded bump, it was a B-shaped bump which I always felt self conscious of. I know it's a silly thing to worry about, but I guess I'm just hoping for a different experience this time 🤷‍♀️x

Hi there. Old thread I know but for anyone reading back, I think it can form a pattern. Third baby and 3 anterior placentas. I don’t think that’s chance

TooMuchCheesecake · 28/10/2021 11:08

@Redleader21 I am also on pregnancy no.3 and all 3 have been anterior placenta. I feel quite disappointed that I have never felt really strong movements with any of my pregnancies. Currently 16 weeks with baby no.3 and felt nothing yet.

Yes I think feelings are much more dulled , although I was so big by the end I felt a lot . But midwives did find it harder to tell me baby’s position. This time I have felt flutters from 14 weeks but I didn’t with my first two. I’m now 17 weeks, think I felt a kick yesterday not very light. I try to think of it as a protective airbag for the baby to keep it safe!

I have an anterior placenta and bump is very tight and round, not B-shaped at all. As Madwife123 said, I don't think bump shape has anything to do with the position of the placenta?

RosieLemonade · 28/10/2021 19:16

I've had anterior placenta both times. With DD it was a bit of a nightmare with reduced movements. I have felt flutters slightly earlier this time but was disappointed when I found out it was another anterior placenta.

Allthesefolks · 28/10/2021 19:21

I had it both times, first time didn’t feel anything till 23+ weeks, second time flutters from 12 weeks, was really surprised when I saw it on the scan report 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe it was in a slightly different place who knows, bump measured big first time (25th centile but loooong) and average second time.

I've had one anterior and one posterior. I think it's random.

8dpwoah · 28/10/2021 19:25

Anterior with my first girl and posterior with my second girl, just to chuck that in the mix!

Was definitely easier to feel movement with the posterior but because baby was right at the front there were a lot more uncomfortable 'my skin is going to burst if you do that again' movements as a result 😂

I am 31 weeks pregnant with twins, both girls, and one has anterior placenta and the other has posterior.

The difference in kicks is quite strong in my opinion.

SaraKitty · 28/10/2021 20:56

I had anterior placenta on my first two , now on my third it’s posterior ! It must be random

SaraKitty · 28/10/2021 20:57

Oh and all 3 are girls !

redandwhite1 · 28/10/2021 20:57

I had low lying with my first and have it again with my second so I guess very possible
