Had my anatomy scan today all's well and baby is absolutely perfect and healthy! He told me I have an anterior placenta just wondering if people who also had this does it affect labour in any way? Thanks

Doesn't effect labour unless it is too far down but then it's be called something else.

The only effect is that you might not feel movent as much or as soon.

I had an anterior placenta with my DD (6 months) and it did not affect the birth in any way. Ended up with an emcs but nothing to do with the placenta.
The only thing I would say it affected was the amount of movements I felt whilst pregnant. I ended up going to the maternity unit 3 times due to reduced movements but they were all due to the placenta acting as a cushion (although I would always say get reduced movements checked!).
Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Hi op,
I'm 28 weeks with a central anterior placenta and it deffo limits what I can feel of his movements. I feel him some days really clearly and can feel limbs poking out etc, then if he moves positions I can go 3-4 days with really limited movements with only a few light kicks!

Everyone's told me it won't make a difference to labour, but get prepared for a long time of poking and shaking your belly trying to get them to change positions 🤣

Hey OP

I have an anterior placenta too. I am now 40 weeks about to drop! I started feeling movement from around 19 weeks. To be honest I have a very active baby in there & even with the position of the placenta I feel her all the time! I do have some quiet moments but it seems like she beats her way through my placenta most of the time! So doesn't necessarily mean less movements.

As for birth I'm yet to go through it but as previous posters have said it doesn't affect it then that's only a good thing :) good luck & don't worry!

To add to what pp said - there's an increased chance of baby being back-to-back.

I had an anterior placenta with my first. It does reduce what you can feel. I'm pretty sure I read that if you need a c section they might have to cut in a different place if the placenta is in the way so your scar might not be in the bikini line (but if I remember correctly that's quite rare).

@tableclothing that's actually really interesting as my first was back to back. I'd not heard that before

I had this, and barely felt DD for most of the pregnancy, except when she decided to turn breech one evening and well, I can still remember my whole stomach turning over like a washing machine!

I had an ELCS and had the incision in the normal place, right on my bikini line (where you underwear sits... Confused)

I have an anterior placenta and it means, as others have said, that it affects how early you feel movements and how often.

It is a low lying placenta or placenta praevia which affects if you can give birth and this is totally different. I’ve also got this, and need an extra scan at 32 weeks to see if it’s moved. If it hasn’t, I’ll need a caesarean as the placenta blocks the cervix and the baby won’t be able to come out naturally.

Hi,

Just to say I had an anterior placenta with my first too. As many have mentioned it affected the amount of movement I could feel. I also went in a number of times for reduced movements. Always get it checked out!

I ended up with an EMCS (not due to the placenta) and my scar is in the usual bikini line place. I think it wouldn't affect a natural birth at all, unless it is too low as others have said. And they'll keep an eye on that at scans. Enjoy the last few months of pregnancy :)
