Hi there. Me and my partner have been TTC for 2 years past in February and on the 18th of April got a positive test. I had an early scan 2 weeks ago because I have pcos and endometriosis and have been trying so long, they wanted to check everything was okay. They picked up a flickering heartbeat and said I was around 6 weeks 2/3 days. I've had awful sickness, sore boobs etc but the past few days my boob pain has reduced and since yesterday evening when I wipe I have a slight brown tinge. Is this common? I guess I'm freaking out because the boob pain stopped too when everyone has told me it's good news I've had all these symptoms.. Any advice or own experiences welcomed to put my mind at ease!

What you’ve described is all very normal! My midwife told me there might be old brown blood when I wipes but if it was a larger quantity of red blood I should call the hospital.

It’s very normal for symptoms to come and go, or to stop after a while.

Sounds like implantation bleed, I had mine at 6+5 they scanned to confirm xx

selfisolatingsince2007 · 04/05/2020 19:39

Sounds like usual spotting from implantation. Not sure what they do in the NHS (I'm Australian, fell pregnant there and then moved to UK at 20 weeks), but over there they did a blood test to confirm the pregnancy and a few days later did another to check the hormones were doubling.

Do they do that here? If so, you could go get that done potentially to put your mind at ease?

@selfisolatingsince2007- things are VERY different in the UK vs Australia unfortunately! My 1st pregnancy was in Aus. Saw GP at 5 weeks due to pain- had bloods done that day for HCG, bloods checked for anaemia and STI's among other things and a scan the following day. A repeat scan and repeat bloods a week later.

2nd pregnancy in the UK- also one sided pain. Early pregnancy unit finally did a scan and HCG blood test. No repeat scan and no repeat bloods. Told I must self refer to midwives and didn't even need to see the GP! No contact with anyone till 12 weeks!!!

OP- check whether you can self refer to the EPU in your area, or only via GP referral. Obviously if the bleeding gets heavier, or red, speak to EPU or GP again. As others have said, a small amount of brown bleeding can happen. The fact you have seen a heartbeat is great news too x

Thank you all! Due to my conditions I had my bloods monitored for progesterone but haven't since the scan as they were happy with the level they were at then. I think if I'm still feeling unsure tomorrow I will call the EPU and see if they will see me. They did give me their number for any problems.

OP have you seen a heartbeat?

If so, the risks go down significantly.

Stabal · 04/05/2020 21:43

Yes there was a heartbeat in the scan 2 weeks ago!

OP this is from the miscarriage assoc of the UK

Hope it gives you some comfort!

Research amongst women with a history of recurrent miscarriage has shown that those who saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks of pregnancy had a 78% chance of the pregnancy continuing. It also showed that seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks increased the chance of a continuing pregnancy to 98% and at 10 weeks that went up to 99.4%.

Thank you, that helps a little bit. I'm quite crampy today though so I'm going for a scan tomorrow morning. I can't shake the feeling it's bad news.

Have everything crossed for you!

Jadegkeaney · 06/05/2020 06:28

I have stage 4 endometriosis and had early scans aswell. I had brown, pink to red blood when I wiped and they said it's normal. I am 15 weeks now and it has stopped. Think it stopped around week 9 or so.. its normal to be concerned but aslong as your not covering a pad with blood your fine.

Stabal · 06/05/2020 08:33

That's reassuring to hear from another endo sufferer, thank you. I'm wearing a pad just in case but it's not enough to even go on one, just there when I wipe. Did you also have pain? In my head it makes sense that I have pain with everything stretching and potentially hitting endo cells but I can't find anything about that when I google.. I have my scan in 2 hours, I'll update yous all!

Had my scan but unfortunately it's been a missed miscarriage. Absolutely heartbroken.

So sorry to hear this, you poor thing. Thinking of you and your partner. Make sure you connect with your GP or Sands to get some extra support. Even now there are loads of telephone support options. Xx

Elouera · 06/05/2020 13:35

So sorry to hear that. Remember, that there was nothing that you did that caused this. Its not your fault and you aren't alone Flowers

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this. Keep strong Flowers

Stabal · 07/05/2020 12:25

@selfisolatingsince2007 @Elouera @Jadegkeaney thank you 💕 it's been very surreal and the whole covid situation makes it worse. Laying on an examination table wearing a mask while a nurse and doctor covered in ppe are trying to console you was so impersonal and I just wanted my partner there. I will never forget his face as I approached the car in the carpark crying. Now the agonising decision of 'wait and see' or medical management because surgical isn't being offered.
