Headaches in 2nd trimester

Has anyone else suffered from headaches in the 2nd trimester?
I am 17+4 and since 14 weeks I have been getting really bad headaches on and off. They never really go but can go from really bad to dull.
Starting to feel a bit sorry for myself as it is so hard to work or do anything other than sleep when they are bad and they just don't seem to be going away. 😩
I spoke to the midwife at 16 weeks and she said it's normal and they will stop at some point but they don't seem to be. 😢
I have tried changing my diet etc but it hasn't helped and I drink lots of water so it isn't that.
Did anyone have headaches and have any success in getting rid of them?
Thanks.

Hi, I was getting bad headaches around then too. Am 21 weeks now and they've stopped. I find parecetemol and a nap usually sorted it out, but I did get a killer headache a day and it was a bit of a drag.

I'm almost 12 weeks and have been getting horrible headaches and migraines since around 4 weeks. I find the kool n soothe migraine forehead patch things or 4head stick and a nap when possible just about gets me through. I've taken paracetamol a few times but trying to manage without

18 weeks and been having them almost daily since week 6. I’m actually a bit shocked if I wake up without one! Sorry I haven’t got much advise as I’ve been dismissed by mw and gp myself. All I can say is keep hydrated, eat little and often, nap and paracetamol with coke or tea if you can handle it. FlowersFlowers

I suffered with weekly migraines in both my previous pregnancies (along with bad sickness) for about the first 25 weeks, it was horrendous (she says, currently expecting baby number 3) I ended up under the care of a consultant via my GP and was prescribed Sumatriptan, which helped and thankfully didn't cause any problems with my pregnancies but I guess theres alway a risk with any medication. If it gets too bad, ask for a referral to your Consultant. Good luck x

I've been getting these, plenty of water and I ordered a eye mask which you can put in the fridge and then put that on my forehead it's only about £5 but that with water and paracetamol if it gets really bad seem to do the trick. I'm now 19 weeks and they have started to ease off! Hope you start feeling better soon xx

I got exactly this for about 8 weeks in second tri. The consultant told me this is when hormones are highest and put it down to that. It really got me down to -especially as I didn’t want to take much for it. Good news is -once I got through that period I haven’t had many headaches in third trimester. Best of luck.

Thanks everyone, it's good to know I am not alone even if there isn't really a solution to it!
I just have to work out how I get my job done and generally function with it.

Yes! I’m currently 16+5 and I’ve been having headaches, I had an awful one a couple of days ago which lasted all day, over 24 hours infact and I couldn’t do anything, I called the midwife the next morning when it had eased as I was concerned about how long that one had lasted. She said it’s very common and to do with hormones but pregnant women should be drinking 3 litres of water a day and I have to admit that I wasn’t really near that probably a litre off! But I have really upped my fluid intake since that headache episode and I haven’t had one since - haven’t stopped weeing though!

I got one every day for a couple of weeks around the same time. Tried not to take too much paracetamol so ended up just napping a lot. They were awful! Worse when I stood up too. Mine went away completely (and hopefully won't return!)

I had really bad headaches that made me sick, like most have said I didn’t want to rely on paracetamol, I found using the kool n soothe strips was amazing and trying to spend some time in a dark room, I’d usually feel better after about an hour or so from doing these two things! Hope you feel better soon!

I had really bad headaches in both my pregnancies. Things I found that helped:

Paracetamol with a can of coke or a cup of tea (apparently the caffeine does something that can help)

A warm wheat bag thing that goes in the microwave around the back of the neck

4head stick/migraleive cooling head strips

Lying down to rest where you can

Mine did eventually pass at about 20ish weeks, fingers crossed for you!
