Waters broke at 34 weeks - scared

As the title says my waters have gone, with my mucus plug, I had a planned C Section booked for 39 weeks.

Drs have said they will keep me in for 5 days to monitor me but if I go into labour it's better for me to have a VBAC, I am pretty set on a CS for a variety of reasons.

Has anyone's waters gone earlier and what was the outcome?

Feeling a bit nervous as there are no visitors allowed on the ward so I won't see my husband or daughter.

My friend said they could have DD for a bit, and have been isolating but their DD is in the high risk category so I don't want to chance it.

Yes, the on call doctor last night said about the VBAC but the round doctor and the anaesthetist (with about 4 registrars) said it would be safer to do a section. The baby isn't in a fixed position and I'm on blood pressure meds so they feel it's the best option.

Thank you for all the comments and advice really lovely DaffodilDaffodil

Best of luck, hope it all goes really well for you

Thank you!

Bleeding is back so staying on the delivery ward for the time being.

My waters broke at 34 weeks. Dd was born very quickly 12 hours later. She spent 10 days in NICU. She’s now 11 months old and perfect. Hope everything goes ok x

PatchworkElmer · 01/05/2020 15:17

Good luck OP- glad they’ve agreed that a c-section is best.

Topseyt · 01/05/2020 15:28

My waters went at 35 weeks with DD3.

I was given the steroids to help her lungs and had a c-section (with epidural) a couple of days later when she showed signs of distress but couldn't tolerate the drugs needed to get labour going.

It was fine. She is almost 18 now. She should be getting good A Level results (hopefully, with the proposed system of awarding grades after Covid 19 forced exam cancellation).

All the best. I hope it goes smoothly. Stick to your guns regarding the caesarean.

cultkid · 01/05/2020 15:32

Why don't you ask for a section now before things potentially get more stressful
I would ask to see the Reg and make a plan xx

harrischase · 01/05/2020 16:43

Thank you all I feel a lot mor positive about the section today, no one has mentioned a VBAC Daffodil

The positive stories of similar timed deliveries are really helping, I'm trying my best to stay of google.

They don't want to do a section at 34 (I'm just 34) unless the baby is I distress, I go into labour or they can't control the bleeding they want to leave it as close to 36/37 as they can.

I have to say everyone today has been very lovely and reassuring, I maybe just hit a bad patch on the night shift

Glad to hear you're being listened to!
Some midwives are a bit urgh! I had one with DS on the night shift and my god she was awful. So horrible. She shoved me out of induction ward onto antenatal ward because the pessary hadn't done anything and antenatal said I should be in induction! Glad I didn't have to deal with her again!

eurochick · 02/05/2020 19:33

Have they said what is the cause of the bleeding?

I had a (planned but unwanted) section at 34 weeks exactly as there was a problem with blood flow to the baby. She was tiny (3lb6) but is now five and doing fine.

harrischase · 02/05/2020 20:29

They have rescanned today and baby is breech so they're saying it's an unstable lie and because my waters have gone I'm at risk of cord prolapse.

Still unsure what's causing the bleeding, they still would prefer to deliver closer to 37 weeks but unfortunately I won't be able to leave hospital because of the risk.

They said they will have a plan on Monday, my infection markets have come down a bit.

I'm just not sure what to think now, googling cord prolapse isn't helping either.

I've also got back pain now but no contractions...

Sorry for the long winded reply Daffodil I'm glad to have this outlet

I'm so glad to hear you are being well looked after and it looks like you will get your c section.

If you and your little family have been isolating for last two weeks would you not consider taking your friend up on their offer for the delivery? (if allowed) As they have also been isolating any risk would be very low.
Good luck!

SpillTheTeaa · 02/05/2020 22:49

Thanks you op. Glad they're taking good care of you. It's a shitty time being away from your kids and husband but it's best for you and baby. Do you think you'll give birth before 37 weeks?

harrischase · 03/05/2020 08:08

Morning Brew

I'm not sure about the giving birth, obviously I want to do what's best for the baby, but I am getting very anxious worrying about cord prolapse to movements.

The thought of another min of 3 weeks in here with no visitors isn't great, although I totally understand.

My friend has been isolating, as have we so it maybe be an option, unless the cord thing happens then hubby wouldn't be allowed in anyway.

I'm on different antibiotics now as I took a reaction to the first batch.

They said il go for a scan tomorrow (been having bedside ones) and hopefully a plan will form from there Thanks

Unstable lie and risk of prolapse usually just mean automatic c section. Not uncommon issues.

harrischase · 03/05/2020 10:03

Apparently not to 37 weeks and I'm only 34, hopefully have a better idea tomorrow Daffodil

Alb1 · 04/05/2020 19:36

How are you @harrischase? Did they come up with a plan today?

newtb · 04/05/2020 19:48

I was born at 32 weeks, weighing just over 5 lbs. No incubators, lost 25% of my birth weight. I'm still going strong over 60 years later.

Good luck

excitednerves · 05/05/2020 01:27

My waters went at 33 weeks, baby was born naturally less than 6 hours later and is a thriving 9 month old.

I hope you are doing ok. The hospital stay sounds challenging in current circumstances but you’re in the best place. Wishing you love & health whilst you wait for baby. X

harrischase · 05/05/2020 18:14

Thank you all!

Baby kept moving and changing positions so they were concerned about cord prolapse as I was 2cm dilated.

So happy to say baby arrived by c section today, on antibiotics but otherwise absolutely fine and perfect.

Thank you so much for all the support on this thread!
