Really missing my Friday night glass of wine - any recommendations for anything that actually tastes decent? Red, white or or sparkly?

freixenet alcohol free prosecco is lovely xx

Pinkflipflop85 · 30/04/2020 22:10

Nosecco is just about bearable.

opticaldelusion · 30/04/2020 22:11

No alcohol free wine tastes good. Alcohol free beer, cider and spirits can be ok though.

Puds11 · 30/04/2020 22:12

Nosecco is ok, I wouldn’t even bother trying to find an imitation wine. Unless you like sickly sweet shit. Lime and soda worked best for me.

Stressedmummyof4 · 30/04/2020 22:26

I quite often buy nosecco from Asda and enjoy it, not pregnant but sometimes in the afternoon on a weekend sitting in the garden it's nice to sit with a glass but without the alcohol.

Lovelostnfoundx · 30/04/2020 22:34

Bees Knees rose was the best I found. Freixenet was ok. I tried various things for about 5 months until I gave up and started to just have fizzy drinks or juice. I just didn’t find myself enjoying it and ended up craving the real deal more. Becks blue was about as good as it got for me.

delilahbucket · 30/04/2020 22:35

Not found a decent wine yet, bit Freixnet Rose is ok. All the other wines are so sweet and the Nosecco is like lemon sherbet.
If you like gin, Caleno is nice with a good quality tonic.

Colouringinbook · 30/04/2020 22:39

Freixnet is ok - had some at Christmas when I was on driving duty. I think the fizz makes it bearable.

Alcohol free beer is much better - Heineken or Brew Dog are my preferred choices.

selly24 · 30/04/2020 22:48

Peroni libera
Lime & Soda in an expensive wine glass
Elderflower cordial w/ tonic ( flute glass)
Pink Grapefruit cordial ( French type in Metal Container). / Ginger ale

Apple & Blackcurrant w/ gingerbeer

Check out posh hotel/ bar lists for their mocktail combos too!

M&S do a non alcoholic wine selection, red, white or rose. I've tried the last two and the rose does taste pretty similar to regular rose.

Elmlee · 01/05/2020 07:22

I have tried M&S red, I really liked it. But I like my wines on the sweeter side. I mixed it with diet lemonade and added some strawberries and blue berries and it made a sangira. That was tasty! Also tried a alcohol free cider and frexinie (however it spelt!) 0.0 alcohol which was nice with a strawberry in 😋

20viona · 01/05/2020 07:29

Freixinet Rose is by far the nicest non alcohol wine.

LTofBR3 · 01/05/2020 08:09

The Torres de-alcoholised rose is quite nice if served v chilled. Bit sweeter than would usually like but was nice to drink in the recent warm weather! Sainsbury's also do a sparkling white (blanc de blanc) which tastes quite authentic.

Goldenmother · 01/05/2020 12:48

I got a lovely non alcoholic pina colada from M&S the other week when the weather was lovely I felt it was just as good as the real thing

RyvitaBrevis · 01/05/2020 13:02

Before lockdown, I sampled a few decent no or 0.5% whites from Majestic. There was a riesling and a sauvignon blanc that were both quite drinkable and had something interesting going on.

The less you spend, the more it will taste like grape juice.

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference 0.5% Sauvignon Blanc is also ok.

Tesco low alcohol white wine is definitely at least half way to grape juice (and actually has grape juice in it), but it's really cheap and oddly pleasant if your expectations are low.
I haven't tried any reds -- I like my reds dry and feel they need alcohol. (I like whites dry as well but more so for red.)

Epmama · 01/05/2020 19:58

The lindemans red is nice. Not sure if you are a g&t drinker but I like a tonic with lots of ice and lemon. Very refreshing.

happyjack12 · 01/05/2020 20:10

you may think this sounds odd- but try it!
small amount of balsamic vinegar, top up with lemonade, add a strawberry or some cucumber if desired, gorgeous... non alcohlic "Pimms"

Alicia870 · 01/05/2020 22:02

So many great suggestions - thank you!

Rawson's retreat (fizzy) in Tesco is not bad. The first sip is odd then it is ok. Tbh best thing I have had is Tesco low alcohol mixed gin and tonic (0.5%). Lots of ice and fruit and you can convince your self it is a GnT.

Sheera1 · 01/05/2020 22:08

What are people's thoughts on small amounts of alcohol. I would love a proper bucks fizz with a small amount of fizz and lovely fresh orange but just can't bring myself to. The studies seem allll over the place. How about a glass of champagne at a wedding?

AgeLikeWine · 01/05/2020 22:10

I have never found an alcohol free wine which tastes good, but I have found a couple of decent beers : Erdinger Alkoholfrei (very popular in German speaking countries) & Brewdog Nanny State.

randomsabreuse · 01/05/2020 22:14

Generally fizzy wine seems to work less badly...

Agree with Peroni Libero but Lidl do an acceptable Lager at the moment too. Also the Alcohol Free Weissbeirs. Despite normally being a bitter drinker I only really like the lagers if alcohol free!

AgeLikeWine · 01/05/2020 22:17

Adnams Ghostship 0.5 is also pretty good.

amazedmummy · 01/05/2020 22:17

freixenet alcohol free prosecco was lovely

Polkadotpjs · 02/05/2020 09:08

You can buy gin flavouring used by home brewers and a drop of that in a tonic water gives the drink a real taste of being real!
