Fragmin injections

Morning

I have recently started injecting fragmin.
I'm use to doing injections because of ivf treatment but these seem to kill and burn. Is anyone else having this feeling

I'm injecting into my thigh as instructed by my consultant

It's making me dread the mornings ! I know it's for the greater good though

I had to do these after my csection. Horrible. My DH had to do them for me into my stomach. I dreaded every one, and would cry when it was time to do them (sounds pathetic I know) they stung like a bugger.

MrsJaneyp · 30/04/2020 09:02

@Loladisco thanks for your reply. I'm only on day 3 and I can honestly say I cry every time.
My DH is doing them too looks like I'm just going to have to grin and bear it Sad

I had to do them into my abdomen flab for 10 days following major surgery recently. The needles are so fine I never really felt them, but the afterburn was something else! I found rubbing the area straight after helped a bit. Was tempted to put ice on, but apparently that stops the drug working properly.

LividLaughLovely · 30/04/2020 09:26

I’ve always done them in belly and if you get the angle right it’s barely noticeable.

MrsJaneyp · 30/04/2020 09:29

@LividLaughLovely my midwife said not to go for the belly. What angle do you go in at?

Are you numbing with an ice cube first?

noavailablename · 30/04/2020 09:31

Oh, X post. I have never heard that the ice cube thing stops the drug working?

noavailablename · 30/04/2020 09:33

@thenightsky
What is the physiology behind that?

AnnaMagnani · 30/04/2020 09:46

Have only ever seen people do them into tummy flab TBH but it may be different for IVF.

thenightsky · 30/04/2020 10:00

The instruction leaflet that came with mine said not to use ice as it stops the drug dispersing into the tissues properly or too slowly. I think the cold maybe thickens it.

LadyEv · 30/04/2020 10:25

Are you injecting them at the correct angle and pinching the skin as you inject? I only ask because I'm having to take these at the moment. And for the first week I wasn't doing it right and they stung a lot. Once I started injecting them at a right angle they hurt a lot less. It's still uncomfortable but no where near as and as before.

EarlGreyT · 30/04/2020 10:32

I’ve had fragmin for the same reason as you. You can inject them into your abdomen. I have always used my abdomen rather than thighs as the once or twice I tried putting them in my thighs it was much more painful. If you’re heavily pregnant and your abdominal skin is very stretched you might find injecting your abdomen a bit more tricky but as far as I am aware there isn’t a reason why you can’t use your abdomen.

Smoggles · 30/04/2020 10:36

I had to do it into my stomach, and I bloody dreaded it too, it was at 10pm as well so I was always shattered by then. In honesty I put a cookie aside and knew that once I had done it I could eat it, as pathetic as that sounds hah. I found it better to do it myself, and would put music on to sing along to and try and forget what was going on.

MrsJaneyp · 30/04/2020 10:38

Thanks for your responses really appreciate it. I'll call my midwife today about stomach injections instead

@LadyEv what angle did you end up doing it at ? We are currently doing 45 degrees

OP posts:
FirstTimeBumps · 30/04/2020 10:47

Had these after my section. Did them in my thigh. Tried the stomach once and i don't know if it was because of my stretch marks but felt like cutting through raw chicken 🤢

They're horrible. As with poster #2 I cried before them every time. My OH did them but hated doing them to the extent it got to the last day and he asked me if I wanted to leave it. I still did it because what was the point of the last nine days of I didn't finish it off. Someone above said rub it after. Don't rub! It feels worse if you run!

LadyEv · 30/04/2020 10:47

@MrsJaneyp that's what I was doing at first. It needs to be 90.

LadyEv · 30/04/2020 10:53

It didn't help that the illustrations on the instruction leaflet I'd been given made it look like the injection should go in at a 45 angle. They were a bit deceiving.

MrsJaneyp · 30/04/2020 11:02

@LadyEv did you put the needle all the way in or just a little way

OP posts:
LadyEv · 30/04/2020 11:30

I push the needle all the way in.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 30/04/2020 11:44

Go slowly, )don't stab the needle in like the nurses do) take is slowly and breath calmly and evenly whilst doing it. And do NOT rub afterwards!! That my top tip!

user1471592953 · 30/04/2020 13:23

I used Fragmin for the same reason as you - always in the tummy and at 90 degrees to the skin, not 45. Pinching the skin also helps.
