Overdue and sweep

Hello!

Am 3 days overdue today and midwife carried out a sweep earlier this afternoon.

I have since read nothing but horror stories of pain for days and that they don't actually work the majority of the time.

Any success stories? Getting really fed up now.

My labour was more long than anything else. I was due on the Sunday 30th august 2015, I was booked in for a sweep originally on the Wednesday, but I started having contractions on the Tuesday so I decided to see if things would progress naturally. They didn't so I ended up having a sweep at 3pm on the Friday (40+5).
I got to the hospital at 9 that evening, was in the birth centre by 10.30, had my waters broken around 2am, then gave birth at 6.58am the Saturday morning (40+6).
It didn't hurt or feel uncomfortable at all and it did help move things along (the head wasn't fully engaged so things wouldn't have progressed on their own). The midwife sad she was surprised when I said it didn't hurt and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all.

Good luck.

I had 4 sweeps from 38 weeks, none of them hurt at all afterwards. I was very lucky and went into labour on my due date, my midwife suggested a glass of champagne/prosecco, warm bath, bounce on my birthing ball and sex, I did all of them and my waters went 3 hours laster!

Good luck op, hope all goes well xx

I had a sweep with both my DC, my first went i lost my plug that night and went into labour the following day. My second I lost my plug the following day and went into labour that evening. Was fine, no horror stories here.

I never had sweeps because of the risks and went into labour naturally with all four. First babies do tend to come later. My first was ten days past the due date. You can’t be pregnant forever. The baby will come.

Agree with @PlanDeRaccordement
I'm 39+4 and will not be having a sweep. I've watched the positive birth company videos and she states that if you have sweep it's not necessarily going to bring on labour. If you go into labour after a sweep it's not sure whether the sweep actually had an affect or if your body was just ready for baby to come. Also the infection risk puts me off.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/04/2020 23:55

Ejmay,
Yes, me too. it was the infection risk and the fact they’re not proven to actually work to bring on labour.
Best wishes for you new baby coming soon :)

Thank you all for the replies!

No pain after sweep, but woke up this morning with pains and ended up in the hospital at 6:30pm and was around 2cm dilated, seems to have worked 😄 although could have went into labour naturally anyway!

Midwife performed another sweep and was sent home. They are now getting faster and more painful, very very painful ☹️ although was told to call back to come up when they were 3 mins apart for over an hour, they're not quite there yet and I'm not coping very well. Still giving it my best just now but was wondering if I called and requested an epidural because I can't cope with the pain, would this be up to me?

Thank you if anyone knows
