Anterior placenta rant

Just need to rant really about my placenta 😂 I've got a central anterior placenta and it drives me mad! I'm 26+5 and some days I really hardly feel baby at all! Some days it's like he's having a party!

I've been to the hospital once to have his movements checked, but I refuse to go every time I feel him less because I'd always be there!

Anyone else got this problem?!

Hi, yes I have high anterior placenta, I couldn't feel a thing until 23 weeks (frustrating when from about 16 weeks everyone is asking oooh can you feel any flutters?!) - never had any flutters, just one day at 23 weeks a few thuds - now I'm 35+5 I feel a lot more movement probably as she's dropped lower and the placenta is now higher - BUT no real regular pattern so I totally get you - makes it so hard to keep track of kicks, also sometimes I look down and my stomach is moving but I can't feel a damn thing. I agree I don't want to go and be checked all the time, especially in this current climate :( sometimes I find an ice cold fizzy drink or a bath gets her moving and lying on my left side. It also doesn't help with scans, half the time I have to lay on my side as they can't get her properly as she's behind the placenta - and the 4D scan I had was a bit pointless as her face was so squashed up against the placenta we could only see half of it - all squashed bless her Grin

Same here, it annoys me 😂 I’m 26+4 and mines having a quiet day today. Hopefully she will perk up a bit later 🤔

Byets · 27/04/2020 16:00

@NicNac100 so glad other people find it as frustrating as me!😂 I completely understand the "flutters" comments, I was the same never had any flutters at all or anything I remotely thought was the baby then suddenly same as you had a few thuds hard enough to move my belly on the outside at 21 weeks and went from there!!

It's really reassuring to hear you've never had a real pattern and are nearly 36 weeks now! Makes me feel better that it's normal to have days where I feel him so much less! I'd give anything to have a placenta in a better place🤣

That's a shame about your 4D scan!! Bet that was so frustrating that you couldn't see her properly! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to have a 4D scan now as planned due to everything going on ☹️ but much worse things happen at sea!!

Good luck with the last bit of your pregnancy 💐

I'm 24+4 and found out I had a high anterior placenta at my 20 week scan. I didn't feel anything at all until I was about 22 and a half weeks and even then it was just tiny little flutters when I was lying down.
The flutters are stronger now and much more frequent but I still haven't had any proper kicks!
I agree with PP that it can be very frustrating and worrying reading about others feeling their babies move much earlier and I can imagine it must be really hard later on when you are trying to keep track of movements!
I guessed I probably had an anterior placenta as every scan I've had, baby has been moving and kicking like crazy but I couldn't feel a thing. It's so strange knowing they are moving so much inside you but you can't feel it.

@Birdy1991 ahhh so sweet that we are 1 day apart! Both babies are having quiet days today 🤣 so reassuring other people are the same!

I have an anterior placenta also and baby goes long quiet spells. Totally freaks me out so I have regular monitoring at the hospital. However I have started making a movements log which is helping me feel reassured. A lot of it is just single movements so I guess without the log I would probably start panicking he hadn't moved that day, but seeing it all written down its clearer that he is moving just not for long.
Some days better than others when I can see my tummy moving aboutSmile

Birdy1991 · 27/04/2020 16:04

@Byets aww yeah! Do you have patterns for when you feel movements? Mine is normally morning and then evening.
Like you I’ve also been to the hospital once and they said the heartbeat couldn’t sound healthier, really don’t want to ever feel like I need to go again.

Byets · 27/04/2020 16:04

@sel2223 so frustrating isn't it! Glad that we can all reassure each other though that we all experience the same thing 😊

I know what you mean! So weird that we just can't always feel it... and watching them kick about on a scan and not being able to feel it is the strangest thing isn't it!🤣

Yes I had one in my last pregnancy. I was at the hospital at least once a week being monitored as I literally could not feel a single thing some days. I really would advise going if you have reduced movement. The midwives told me they expect women with anterior placentas to be there very regularly.

maryd84 · 27/04/2020 16:10

I'm 24 weeks and I have an anterior placenta. I didn't feel anything until 21 weeks. It started with feeling bubbles or flutters and now I feel proper kicks.

Some days I find that baby is really quiet and other days like last night and today it feels like baby is having a party in there😁

NicNac100 · 27/04/2020 16:41

@Byets ahh thank you, good luck with the rest of yours too Flowers as you'll see from all the other posts anterior placentas seem to give us all the same worries :) however I've been told that if it isn't anterior some of the kicks in the ribs can be agonising so every cloud has a silver lining I guess!

KittyKat2020 · 27/04/2020 16:58

Yep I have an anterior placenta and only started feeling tiny kicks yesterday (at least I think they were) it’s my first time pregnant so I’ve not got a clue what I’m feeling. Worried about it all as today his been super quiet and I’m getting stressed

KittyKat2020 · 27/04/2020 16:59

Just to add I’m 23+5

snch · 27/04/2020 16:59

I'm 23 weeks with an anterior placenta. I can feel some popping sensations but not as often as I would like some days I don't feel anything and I get so nervous. It's really frustrating. A big drink with lots of ice in usually gets him moving x
