Is it possible to feel kicks at 19 weeks?

Hi everyone!

So I've been able to feel movement from my baby since about 16 weeks. It just felt like there was a fish swimming in there...Very weird sensation 😂 Of course, I doubted whether it was baby or wind or something else entirely Haha!

I'm now 19 weeks, and last night whilst I was lying in bed, I felt what I think was a kick, that made me jump! It did it again and about an hour later I moved and lay on my back and could actually feel movement on the outside too!

This morning after breakfast, it did it again.

I miscarried the last one and dont have a huge bump so am kind of in denial that theres anything in there haha. But is it possible to feel kicks at 19 weeks or am I likely feeling something else? It seems really early!

Yes - i began feeling flutters at 16 weeks (first pregnancy)

MsChatterbox · 27/04/2020 11:04

Yes, completely possible. Congrats! The best feeling ever. My husband felt both of our babies at 19 weeks, so definitely possible!

Pinkblueberry · 27/04/2020 11:04

Did you see it? I can’t remember how many weeks I was, maybe 21 or 22 and if I lay flat and looked down and felt a kick I could see it.

Yes, even with an anterior placenta I was feeling kicks at about 19-20 weeks. They made me jump top haha.

27 weeks and I'm getting booted in all directions. You should start noticing they get stronger every 3 or so days, that's how it went for me at that stage.

too*

@MsChatterbox thank you! I'm not going insane then 😂 I was lead to believe that I wouldnt feel it on the outside until at least 22 weeks...But I definitely felt it last night. I think that's only because baby has wriggled it's way to the front lol! One it moves again I bet I won't feel it for days!

@PinkBlueBerry no I didnt see it. It was total fluke that I felt it on the outside to be honest because I never lie with my hand on my stomach. I just happened to lie with my hand there at the same time it kicked! I'll have to keep an eye out 😊

@LittleBoyJuly2020 that's really interesting that you felt that even with the placenta in the way! Also really interesting that you said they get stronger every 3 days or so, will have to pay attention! Do you know of I'm meant to monitor its movement from here on in if its kicking?

Hi,

I have an anterior placenta and felt very faint tiny flutters at 9 weeks, movements have been solid since 16 weeks and now at 33 weeks he's a right little wriggler! As much as I can't wait to meet him, I am going to miss this :)

MsChatterbox · 27/04/2020 11:21

You might get used to a pattern but babies can also move in a way you don't feel them at this stage, midwives don't usually ask you to take note until 28 weeks but may see you before that if you're concerned about reduced movement 😊

dochas06 · 27/04/2020 11:21

I had an anterior placenta and I felt movement at around 19 weeks despite being told I likely wouldn’t until much later

UrsulaSings · 27/04/2020 13:55

Also an anterior placenta and started feeling movement at 19 weeks. Several kicks which have made me jump! I am 21 weeks now and sure I saw my stomach move last night when he did a big kick and made me jump - I was lying down looking at my phone so my belly was within eyesight, otherwise I don't think I would have noticed!

@Gemma0711 - congratulations! Smile I am 19 weeks too and have been able to feel baby since about 16 weeks. This week I have been able to feel them quite strongly (including with my hand on my tummy) and so has my husband, so yes definitely possible Smile. I have been told I have a posterior placenta and it's my first baby.

@Gemma0711 also re. monitoring, probably best to ask your midwife at your next appointment? I have read on lots of websites that they don't ask you to look for patterns until quite a bit later - around 28 weeks as baby has much more room at the moment and could end up kicking in ways that you can't feel them which could lead to unnecessary worrying. I have downloaded a kick counter app just for fun now though.
