Ergobaby Metro & outward vs. inward facing pushchairs

I have a really small house and car boot (hyundai i10) and have been looking at pushchairs/prams that fold up small. The ergobaby metro folds up to 52 x 44 x 23cm apparently so would fit ok and is more affordable than the babyzen yoyo which is similar.

Does anyone have this & how is it?

Does it matter that after 6+ months once the newborn attachment is gone that it only faces outward? Do people tend to have outward or inward facing prams?

Thank you.

I think it depends on how much time the baby is spending in the pushchair - if you walk a lot and they are in there for a couple of hours a day (school runs, going to library, shops etc) I prefer to have them rear facing, just so we can chat and interact face to face. If you use the car a lot and they are only in the pushchair for short stints, then forward facing is fine. Once they get past one they will probably have a strong preference for facing forward anyway!

I originally bought a bugaboo bee but when my baby was 6 months I got the ergobaby metro for when we went on holiday and I loved it! It folds up so small and is so easy to fold up and down, it takes up half the space in my boot that the bugaboo took up. my baby loved facing outwards and watching everything going on around him and he even slept better in it! I now use that 90% of the time

I personally chose the Uppababy Vista (easy to dismantle wheels) because of this problem with small pushchairs. I hate the idea of a 6 month old falling asleep while facing the world - wouldn’t want that until at least 12 months.

I have an Aygo so probably a similarly sized boot to the Hyundai- the Vista fits perfectly with the pushchair attachment. Nothing else fits in the boot though so shopping etc needs to be put into the back lol

It’s hard because it slightly depends on the baby. I’m so happy I have the bugaboo bee because my DS (now 2) absolutely loves parent facing and we nearly always have it in this set up. I talk to him the whole time we’re out with the pram (which is a lot as we don’t have a car) and we’d both hate it if that wasn’t an option. But my friend’s baby loves looking out and seeing everything that’s around. You can do either with the Bee but a lot of smaller ones like the yoyo don’t have the option. The bee is a bit heavier but still small and light and I love it.

Personally I would have parent facing for as long as possible because it is so important for language and social development.

Thank you. I'm really not sure. I find it so stressful looking at all the different options and trying to work out the best one! Especially as I cant actually see them in real life!

How will you get home from the hospital? If someone will be helping you then just buy the carseat for now and make them carry the baby in it. You can then go to the shops for the pushchair later. Waiting might be a good because there is a third option in baby carriers too.

I have the Cybex Eezy S Twist until my little one was 18months and loved the option of both parent facing and outward but I now have the ergobaby metro and love it as well.

I had to get a travel stroller when DD was 2 months old so I did quite a lot of research on strollers suitable from birth. Make sure you look at the seat dimensions (another thing to consider- sorry!). Some of the seats in compact pushchairs can be quite tight, so might have a relatively limited lifespan. If this is going to be your only pram you have to consider things like if you'll be taking it on country walks or over any terrain that isn't paved. A lot of the compact strollers have very small wheels which does have an impact, especially as the child gets heavier. Also the seat is still slightly reclined even in the highest setting in most of them, so a lot of the reviews I read mentioned toddlers pulling themselves forward in the seat to look around.

In the end went for a Cybex Eezy S+ but I think it's now been discontinued. If money had been no object I would have got a Bugaboo Bee- as a PP said the ability to parent face was a priority for me to optimise opportunities for speech development and interaction and I Iove staring at her. If the baby wants to sit forward, fine, but at least you have the option!
