Hey everyone I have recently been put on Tinzaparin due to a suspected blood clot in the lung, I haven't received a lot of information yet about how this will effect my birth, I've heard that they tend to induce you early so they can control when you stop taking your injections ect just wondering if anyone has any advice about this ?

Hey:) sorry to hear your going through this. I have a history of blood clots in the lungs so I have been on injections since start of pregnancy and will be till 8 weeks after the birth.

What is it your wanting to know? Im also a nurse too xx

FirstTM2020 · 26/04/2020 10:14

Also yes no spontaneous labour as pain relief can't be used when you are on the injections and for the purpose of controlling the bleeding pre birth as we all know these injections thin the blood and therefore can cause a lot of bleeding. I'm being induced at 37 weeks xx

Depends on the dose you're on. I was on 20 mg (have had clexane/tins in my last 3 pregnancies). I have been induced with each but the last hospital weren't at all bothered about doing this as the dose is small at 20mg so risk of bleeding very small - was reassured that even if I'd just taken the dose and needed a emcs they wouldn't be worried. So long and short is it's easier if you know and is dose dependant, hospital protocol dependant & obstetric history dependant as to whether they will induce early.

I was on tinzaparin throughout both my pregnancies, wasn't induced early, spontaneous labours... my consultant advised me to stop taking it at the first sign of possible labour.

Had diamorphine with my first and a water birth with the second.

They are 4 and 2 now.

Shani123 · 26/04/2020 11:42

I've been on it since 28 weeks and will continue it 6 weeks after birth. When initially put on it I asked how it impacts birth and I was told just not to take it if I'm having signs of labour but would of been allowed to naturally go into labour.

However since then for different reasons a csection has been planned for me and I just stop the injections around the days of my section!

@FirstTM2020 hope everything is going weell! I think I. Really just want to know if I will be induced ? I am so confused as there's so many deferent experiences x

Thank you everyone for all of the information ! It has helped put me at ease I'll have to talk to my consultant at my next appointment and ask about birth ect I'm 34 weeks almost so just wanted to know if I need to start preparing for baby to be earlier than expected 🙈

I've been taking since 28weeks I'm currently 32 weeks I've been told I would have to continue after the birth but I'm not sure how long after, I've got a phone consultation with my consultant on Thursday so I'll definitely be asking about birth

FirstTM2020 · 26/04/2020 16:17

So it depends on the dose, so for example if your on a small dose (maintenance dose meaning its preventable dosage) then they are likely to be more flexible but if your on a treatment dose like me. I'm on deltaparin injections on a high dose and couldn't go in to spontaneous labour. It sounds like if you have a current blood clot then it will be a treatment dose like me and likely you will be induced around 37 weeks. Did you take advise from the consultant xx

TwinkleStars15 · 26/04/2020 17:21

@alesha01 consultants will “insist” you are induced but you do not need to take their advice. I didn’t and my birth was absolutely fine, I was on twice daily 80mgs at the time, normal water birth with no excessive bleeding.
This time round I’m having a home birth, as it’s my choice. They can be very pushy in my experience so you need to be confident in your choice, whatever that my be.
You can’t have an epidural but other pain relief is available.

Goldenmother · 26/04/2020 18:42

I'm having to take 0.35mls (7000 units) and an aspirin is this considered a lot I've not seen my consultant since I started the injection at 28 weeks, like I said I do have a telephone appointment this week what question should I be asking

alesha01 · 26/04/2020 20:17

Thank you everyone, so I refused the vq scan for the blood clot because I wasn't comfortable with the risks to the baby so they've put me on Tinzaparin I think 0.8 ml (16,000u) until after the baby just incase as I've showed most symptoms, I don't want an induction and 37 weeks is only 3 weeks away for me so I'll definitely have to check with my midwife 🙈 xx

@alesha01 its totally your choice.. just be aware you can't have the epidural if you go in to spontaneous labour, but this may not have been your choice to have anyway so all good. Take care xxx
