Pregnacare

Hi Ladies

Pregnacare query: I have a very balanced veggie diet, 22 weeks along with my little boy and all going well. Bloods all good and feeling great, compared to first trimester when I was a nutcase!

I just wondered if there was anyone here who took pregnacare all the way through pregnancy and felt ok (especially if you had a good diet), and if anyone stopped and all was still ok - not sure what I mean by that, perhaps just mum and baby were all well, and taking in too much folic acid / zinc etc was safe.

I just hate the multi vitamin and have worked out I am getting lots of nutrients from my diet. Especially in lockdown I am able to cook lots and take my time!

Have just ordered my Vit D and B12, and going back to eating a bit of seaweed for my iodine...I think I'm covered with everything else

Many thanks!
Mx

I eat a very balanced healthy diet but took the tablets the whole way through... I didn't really think about stopping.
I am now pregnant with my second (only 11 weeks) and will take the tablets again the whole way through.
Saying that I know people who didn't take any the whole way through their pregnancy and their babies were healthy :)

@N12345625 thanks! That's great to know. The iron in the pregnacare is driving me mad, so think I will stop or switch to something gentler

They're pricey but Thorne Basic Prenatal was recommended by a hippy friend and they've been good for me. They've still got iron, but I'm fine as long as I take them last thing at night. I took them all through pregnancy and up until I stopped breastfeeding.

I managed to take Pregnacare for about five days. The iron really messed me up. I've been taking Boots own brand pregnancy vits for about two and a half months now and they are much gentler. They only have 100% of the RDA for iron in them compared to the crazy amount in Pregnacare and that seems to have made all the difference for me. Cheaper to boot.

Recently I went to my consultant and he actually actively encouraged me to continue due to immunise system and that it was helping to keep me strong.

toomuchteaandcake · 25/04/2020 13:05

I've been taking the whole way through, I'm now 30 weeks. Recommended to keep taking by both my doctor and midwife

Mj2196 · 25/04/2020 13:09

I swapped from pregnacare at 12 weeks to boots own as pp said they were a lot gentler on my stomach, still taking them now at 33weeks

cheesybeano · 25/04/2020 13:12

Make sure your taking folic acid as it reduces the chance of baby having spina bifida, vitamin d is also recommended. I think everything else in pregnancy vitamins is just a bonus and not necessarily essential, correct me if I'm wrong

Bienentrinkwasser · 25/04/2020 17:10

I took no vitamins in my first pregnancy and haven’t taken anything yet in this pregnancy. I’m 12 weeks so no point in taking folic acid now anyway. Both times I‘ve had hyperemesis and would have immediately vomited so there was no point. Had great iron levels and felt well throughout my first pregnancy. I’m not veggie but had a very limited diet for the first 4 months or so! I’ve only ever had generic vitamin D and folic acid tablets sat on the side. Pregnacare is largely unnecessary for healthy adults.

sel2223 · 25/04/2020 17:20

I'm veggie and worry I'm not getting enough vitamins and minerals for baby even though I eat a fairly balanced diet.
I'm 24+2 now and am still taking pregnacare supplements and most likely will continue taking them all the way through.

Hi, just after advice, I'm 5 weeks pregnant, I started bleeding yesterday morning, it quickly got heavy but today it seems to be dying down although there have been a few clots but they've only been small. I've had cramps in my stomach but nothing half as bad as the miscarriage I had 7 months ago. Is there much of a chance that it can be breakthrough bleeding or is it likely that I'm having another miscarriage?

I have phoned the hospital and due to a previous ectopic they have booked me in for a scan Wednesday. I'm so scared I'm gonna get there and yet again face the heartbreak of seeing no heartbeat on the screen.

Has anyone else had this and had a successful pregnancy? I need something to give me hope? As much as i am trying I'm finding it very difficult to stay positive as this is all very similar to what happened 7 months ago 😔

Thank you

Maggie272 · 25/04/2020 17:25

Thanks everyone! The consensus seems to be to keep taking them...but will look at changing. @sel2223 I was vegan before becoming pregnant but then ate eggs cos I also was worried! My doc was quite happy with my diet but I really understand that worry. I think I'll take a little break and see if my poor tummy recovers a bit
@Bienentrinkwasser my mother would agree with you, and I do too, except when the nerves kick in! None of the women of my mother's generation took anything and we all turned out great - and there were a lot of us!
Thanks again for all the advice!

@Buglee28
It's ok hon, you just go back to the main page and click 'start new thread'. I hope you are ok. It's definitely best to talk to your doc or mw x

I took Seven Seas multi-vitamin for pregnancy during my first pregnancy & was fine.
Started taking Pregnacare in my second pregnancy & didn't like them so switched back to Seven Seas for the rest of the pregnancy. Maybe try another vit & see if that's better?
