Just wondering if anyone has had this in pregnancy? started a few days ago with itching on and off and I have got dry skin that I've tried to moisturise.

However today the itching is terrible, I can't stop! I know you have to take special notice of itchy hands and feet according to my midwife but they're probably the only places I'm not actually itching! No rash except when I scratch it raw! Any suggestions on how to ease the itching?

Thank you! ☺️

I did, E45 Itch relief cream was amazing. Had liver problems in pregnancy, so mention it to your midwife to be safe. Also oat baths may help? Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Callimanco · 24/04/2020 23:39

Hi - definitely talk to your midwife; I would actually call them. You need a bile salts test to check your aren't developing cholestasis of pregnancy.
If not - aloe is soothing. I also bought some cooling pillows called "chillow pillows" which you put cold water in. I used to wrap them around my feet!

eisbslej · 24/04/2020 23:40

Definitely check with midwife.

ChanklyBore · 24/04/2020 23:40

I would calll your midwife in case of obstetric cholestasis.

squashie34 · 24/04/2020 23:43

My midwife is useless and never replies to any of my texts or picks up calls ☹️ only just had my telephone 25 week appointment too over the phone this week but it wasn't constant itching then.. got my 28 week appt in 3 weeks, do I wait until then to mention it? X

Agree check with midwife ASAP just in case.

Off topic but chillows sound like what I need for perimenopause! Off to google.

j712adrian · 24/04/2020 23:50

Call your midwife!

Ilovelala · 24/04/2020 23:52

I was called in straight away when I phoned maternity unit with these symptoms. It wasnt obstetric cholestatis but that's what they thought it was. I had to use hydrocortisone and zero cream every day as it turned out to be excema.

MollyButton · 24/04/2020 23:52

Talk to your midwife or a GP, and don't wait 3 weeks.

BadgertheBodger · 24/04/2020 23:52

Oh definitely don’t wait. Don’t ever wait with any concerns in pregnancy, not worth the risk. You can also now call day case unit as you’re over 24 weeks (at least you can in my area!)

PurpleDaisies · 24/04/2020 23:53

Don’t wait. This needs checking.

MovingBriskyOn · 24/04/2020 23:54

I got that. I think it was new skin growing quickly where my body was growing. I used eurax, I think it was called. Got through bottles of the stuff

squashie34 · 24/04/2020 23:57

In my area after 24 weeks it's call the labour ward triage if there's urgent symptoms like reduced movement, bleeding etc? Is it serious enough to call them over the weekend though, I'm not sure? The GP isn't open until Monday but I could call them then (Midwife honestly isn't worth trying- I'm still waiting for a reply about something from 6 weeks ago 😕 never see the same one twice)

OP posts:
HighInTheHills · 24/04/2020 23:58

Do you have a midwifery triage number you can call at your local Midwife/Consultant Led Unit? I wouldn't bother trying to get hold of your actual midwife, you'll get a much quicker and more proactive response from them. I would think they'll want you to come in for testing/monitoring.

Definitely something to get checked out ASAP and not one to leave for your 28wk appt. Chances are it's absolutely fine but it's really not worth taking the risk on something that could make you and baby very poorly.

Throughout all of my pregnancies my midwives have always said they'd rather see me a hundred times and have everything be fine, than not see me once and it not to be fine. I promise you they will not think you're wasting their time, their job is to look after you and your baby.

squashie34 · 25/04/2020 00:00

I feel like Balloo in the Jungle Book where he just stands scratching himself up and down the tree 😆 it's not one specific place, it could be arm one minute and legs the next so would that be stretching skin? I'd get it if it was tummy. Feeling a little bit worried now, just thought it was a regular symptom without it being hands and feet 😕

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 25/04/2020 00:01

I would call them. They can tell you it can wait until Monday if they think that’s ok.

HighInTheHills · 25/04/2020 00:02

Sorry cross post, yes absolutely serious enough to call triage number, you should be able to call them now and get a response. They'll be able to work out best plan of action for you whether that's going in now or in the morning.

Always best to call about any concern because they can always signpost you elsewhere if they're not the appropriate dept, so to speak, for that particular issue.

Please call them OP and let us nknow how you get on when you get a chance. All the best xx

squashie34 · 25/04/2020 00:03

@HighInTheHills thank you, I'll give them a call tomorrow morning- just don't want them to think I'm wasting their time in this pandemic when it isn't about movement or bleeding etc!

OP posts:
Whitegrapeandblackberry · 25/04/2020 00:07

You need to call them, don't want to worry you but I had this and it was to do with bile liver etc it can be dangerous if you have it and don't have the medication so please please ring them!! Xx

Qgardens · 25/04/2020 00:11

Yep, first thing tomorrow please.

RJnomore1 · 25/04/2020 00:12

I don’t mean to worry you but if you’re that itchy I’d call now.

I was hospitalised with this during my last pregnancy and even now I think better safe than sorryZ

puds11 · 25/04/2020 00:14

I called my labour ward for itching. It can be serious. Please call them. They don’t mind!

squashie34 · 25/04/2020 00:19

@RJnomore1 how long were you hospitalised for? Was everything ok with you and baby?

OP posts:
HighInTheHills · 25/04/2020 00:29

I saw my midwife on Monday (24wks) and she said they're really worried about the reduced number of women they're seeing compared to normal, because women don't want to bother the midwifery team because of the pandemic.

She said to please please call them with any concerns as they have safety measures in place to help keep you and baby safe. She must have made that point to me three or four times over the course of the appt.

Give them a quick call now OP and then you'll have had a medical professional assess you over the phone and make a plan of action. Some problems in pregnancy can turn very serious very quickly. I don't want to worry you but I honestly wouldn't take the risk and wait til the morning.

I know it's a ball ache especially late at night and you don't like to feel you're bothering them, but that's their job and they won't mind. You are your baby's advocate and need to keep both of you healthy and well.

Big hugs, big girl pants on and call the bloody triage number now! Wink

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 25/04/2020 00:44

Ring now. Don’t wait. Please
