Hypremesis and my dog

Hi everyone, I know there’s lots of worse issues going on currently but this in particular for me is hell! We have a 2 year old English bulldog and she is lovely. She is crate trained and has a huge crate under our kitchen island and usually that’s no problem. She has plenty of baths and her bedding is clean ect. I’m almost 12 weeks now and I absolutely cannot stand the smell of her. I feel awful but I’ve been hospitalised for hypremesis and she is by far my worst trigger! I literally cannot go in the kitchen without being sick it’s awful and I’m not one to exaggerate! What can I do? Move her elsewhere? She has allergies so I can’t even use doggie deodorant on her but it’s that bad that we’re not cooking proper meals because I can’t stand it.. sorry for the rant Sad I’m at my wits end

Do you have a relative that would take her for a while? Or can you afford kennels or a dog sitter for a week or so?

If you’re 12 weeks hopefully it may settle soon, so just a week or so might get you over the worst?

Oh no, how awful! I’m afraid o don’t have any advice - I had hyperemesis too but cwtching my dog was a great comfort to me.

Do you have anti sickness meds from your GP? Can you move the crate to a different room that’s less frequently used until your sickness settles?

Alwaysworried9 · 24/04/2020 10:57

I had this too with hyperemesis and it was awful so I feel so bad for you!

My worst triggers were the cat food, any sort of cooking and deodorant Sad

If you can stand the smell, I used to dab a tiny bit of vicks under my nose if I needed to, I’m not sure if this may help? It wasn’t 100% but it definitely made a bit of a difference!

Fingers crossed it gets better soon! 💕

I had this too, any smells would trigger me, the dog was particularly bad, I had to spend all my time upstairs with windows open and the dog had to stay downstairs, my poor husband had to look after the dog and do all the cooking.

The doctor prescribed me some tablets that stopped me being sick quite as often.

No advice bit you have my sympathy - I had the same with my cat!

He is very much a lap cat and my lap is the preferred one (squishier thighs Grin) but he was banished from going near me for a good 4 months. To make things worse a fox started spraying in the garden and then the bloody cat started spraying indoors in response - it was torture! Much better after about 21 weeks - he's still a bit wiffy but doesn't make me want to vomit and it's warm enough to have the windows open.

So yeah, massive sympathy! Can you keep her out of certain rooms? And do you have a partner who can do the cooking?

Thanks everyone for your replies! It comforts me to know I’m not the only one whose been repulsed by my beloved pet. I am taking promethazine after cyclzine didn’t work, on the maximum dose and they do seem to help a lot until I go into the kitchen of course. I think I’ll have to move her for now and bleach the whole kitchen ect again. Then reasses in a month or so. It’s no fun this hyperemesis thing is it

Yeah my partners great doing all the washing feeds the dog ect but he’s a useless cook! And I would love to be able to go into the kitchen to feed my 3yo dd as needed without having the whole conversation again with dp about triggers ect Hmm I’ll get on it today thanks everyone x

If it’s any consolation, I hate the smell of my kitchen constantly. Husband assures me it smells fine. I vomit every time I open the fridge. I pretty much just spend all day in the garden!
