Tinzaparin or anyone else who objects themselves?

I’ve been prescribed this today and wasn’t shown how to use them (my fault as I’ve had claxane before and said I was fine injecting myself) so it was a bit of a shock that they aren’t the pen type injections. I’ve got a couple of questions.... can I numb the area with Ice maybe before I inject? Also, how quickly can I push the liquid in? I’ve got a rubbish pain threshold so it really hurt and just after some idea of how to make it less so for the next 10 weeks. 😬

Have done similar injections in the past. Where are you injecting? Thigh or stomach? Make sure you squeeze area you are injecting. Do it slow, too quickly and it’ll hurt more x

I had tinzaparin injections twice a day from 28 weeks to 6 weeks pp. They honestly don't hurt going in, just pick a nice fleshy area, pinch an inch (or yank a yard as Jo Brand quips) and push straight in. Inject steadily, sometimes it stings a little but other times no sensation. The bruises are big at first (my toddler asked if the baby was trying to kick her way out!) but after a few weeks I rarely bruised. The worst part was getting the sharps box properly disposed of - the hospital, GP and pharmacy wouldn't take them. My local council has a used needle disposal service but the booking woman was very sniffy until I mentioned they were post-CS, I think she assumed I was a user! Don't worry, you'll be fine, after a few days you'll be a pro Smile

Thank you. I injected in to my tummy. I did squeeze but let go as I was shocked at how much I had to push to get the needle in 🙈 hopefully tomorrow it will be less painful and I’ll keep it squeezed the entire time. :)

@EssElsiee thank you for the link, that’s perfect. Nothing came up with a google search for me.

You should have had a patient information leaflet in the pack, with instructions for self injection. If you didn’t get one you can ask the pharmacist. Obviously that might be difficult at the moment! The leaflets are online though. Which presentation do you have?

I picked mine up yesterday. I’ve got to inject from 28 weeks (Monday) until 6 weeks after birth. I feel sick just thinking about it - I’m no good at needles.
My appt was cancelled too so just had to pick up from pharmacy with a leaflet.

How are you getting in @Ethellsmum? Out of 12 injections I have 10 bruises and also have had 3 that didn’t go straight in and I had to try in a different part of my stomach.
Do stretch marks make it more difficult? I’m covered in them and wondered if when they don’t go in I’m trying over scar tissue. It still hurts everytime. 😢 hope it gets easier

@Kezmum14 I started yesterday. Dh has to give me the injections as I’m not good at all with needles. I have one bruise so far.
I’m finding the injections quite stingy!
