Size of hospital bag...

I'm going in to have my second at the end of May. Under the current circumstances, what's an acceptable size of hospital bag to pack?

First time round, I packed a hand luggage sized IT suitcase but obviously could have visitors bring me items or take away clothes to wash.

Now, as no visitors are allowed, I'm really struggling to fit everything for baby and me in the same case I used before. I'm aware hospitals are trying to get mums out sharp, but I'm going in for a c section and just don't know how long I'll be in for.

I guess regarding my pregnancy, this is really one of the only things I have any control over, so I want to ensure my bag/case is packed right and I'm prepared for a lonely stay with enough to keep me going to cover all eventualities.

What are other pregnant mums doing or have done during the restrictions?

Thanks Flowers

I am taking more this time round than with my 1st so I can a small travel case like the one you would of took first time round and the baby also has his own one same size and my husband has an over night bag I also have my pillow, and a coller bag for my ice water and drinks so am taking quite a lot but am.not bothered as long as I have everything I need xx

Take as big a bag as you need it's stressful enough being in hospital alone with a baby don't be panicking about running out of supplies, I'd be taking one suitcase just for snacks!!

I'm going for a section also and been told I'll be out after 24hours. I've packed a small suit case.

I had a vaginal first time around and ended up tearing and was in for four nights. Obviously it could be different this time as I'm in for a section but I'm getting anxious about not having enough clean clothes etc. should I be kept in longer (also snacks!).

I guess they'll have seen it all on the maternity wards so a slightly larger suitcase hopefully won't cause too much trouble Blush.

Sorry just realised that opening sentence was possibly way too much info!

Do you think the one with the arrow is too ridiculous? It's not cabin sized like the second case in the pic but also isn't massive like the last one in the pic? (I currently have this at home so could use it)

Sorry for worrying about something that seems so trivial but there's no guarantee I'll be out in 24 hours and with all that's going on I just want to be prepared and have the things my baby and I will need.

Big anxious pregnant lady over here Blush

I hear ya! I was told one small cabin bag by my midwife last week, but having tried to pack into that, I'm not going to be able to!

I've been in 4-5 days with each of my other babies, so not anticipating a quick trip this time (though it would be great to be in and out within 12hrs!)

I think I've decided to do cabin suitcase, plus a backpack. Orderly things like nappies and sleep suits and my clothing in cabin bag, and other bits like drinks and snacks and towel etc in backpack. Then at least I'm able to carry one bag without hands, and drag the other along with me.

I want to take birth ball and pillows, but no way I'll manage it all on my own (going without a birth partner), so I'll just have to hope they have spares at the hospital...! Last time they gave me a birth ball the size of a basketball, which was comically useless!

@Quitthat "the size of a basketball" 😂 oh my goodness that brightened my evening.

I think I'll try that, or just go for a bigger case in the end.

I'll ask at my appontment next week and see what midwife suggests but I really hope they're more accommodating under the circumstances.

Thanks for all your responses Smile

I took a massive suitcase. And bring a much smaller bag to bring with you to other rooms if told to do so.

I’m taking a cabin sized case, partner/anyone can still drop off bits at hospital doors with your name/ward/bed attached and the porters will take it to the correct place, so I’m assuming I’m staying for no more than a day and if necessary partner can drop bits off, obviously we can’t see them but the stuff is still able to get through!

I don’t want to have a large bag as whatever we take we have to take out ourselves with baby as well and I don’t fancy lugging a big bag/suitcase to the exit 😂
