I've been told by the dentist I have an abscess under my tooth and need antibiotics. I've been given some and from what I've read they are safe, but as with any tablets they don't trial test them on pregnant ladies so research is limited.
37 weeks and 3 days.... does anyone know if antibiotics in general can encourage early labour?
There's no question as to whether I'm having them as I've got bad tooth ache so I need them! But I was really hoping I could hold on until at least 38 weeks/next week when the lockdown will hopefully be nearly over! 😬

Also the antibiotics are called Metronidazole :)

Infection can cause pre term labour. Take the antibiotics.

Infection is far more likely to cause premature labour then metronidazole which is used frequently in obstetrics.

Oh yes there's no question, I am taking them! I was just curious whether they may cause any changes. I'm full term now so baby is welcome anytime but I am holding out for as close to the end of lockdown as possible :)

I was on antibiotics twice in the last few weeks of pregnancy for a UTI which just wouldn't bugger off, first lot at 36 weeks, second lot at 39 weeks, I went into labour at 40+5. An abscess will only get worse, I wouldn't delay treating it

We give metronidazole to pregnant women who have sepsis during labour and as the prophylactic antibiotics for women having c-section

I've started the treatment, it was never a question of delaying it. My tooth has been so soar and I want it to be over with by the time my baby is here :) But it's nice to be reassured that they are used frequently and safe :)
