Why do I have a call with a gynae 2 months after my miscarriage in February?

I had a d&c for a missed miscarriage in February. I got a letter shortly after to say I would have a 15 min call with a gynae 2 months later ‘to discuss results of a recent test you had’. My standard blood tests were all normal. What do you think it could be? Could it be an issue with the scan? Has anyone else had this?

Thank you

I don't know - a couple of things popped into my head (either an issue with the scan or much more unlikely something to do with the fetal remains) but 15 mins doesn't seem a long time if it is serious. So I would expect it is something fairly minor. Trying to think what they may have seen in the scan... polycystic ovaries? something unusual about your uterus?

Nope. Hope all turns out to be OK though - when it the phone call?

I've had call backs before following ectopic pregnancy surgeries - it tends to just be a wellness check and they talk through what happened and ask how recovery has been. I'm your case they might have tested the remains to see if there were any genetic issues

Also my hospital offers a full burial service for miscarried/ stillbirth / ectopic babies and i had a call 2 months after mine to confirm whether I wanted to attend the funeral etc x

Just to add! The letter was sent the day after my d&c, so I don’t think it’s anything to do with the basic tests they do on the fetus. That would be far too quick!
I’m worried they spotted something dodgy in the scan. :(

Thansk for your responses! I didn’t see them before i posted the second time . Timings don’t really work out for a test of the fetus. Maybe they spotted something odd on the scan, though they can’t be extremely worried as they would invite me or not do a call. I will update on here what it is so future people googling will know!

Hi @fakeflower. I had something similar after my surgery. I received a letter through the post for a scan requested by the consultant after being categorically told there would be no follow up scan unless I was bleeding heavily. I also panicked. Turns out I had a large cyst they want to check had resolved itself. Apparently all normal in pregnancy and they usually resolve within a few weeks after miscarriage but mine was slightly larger than they like to see so they wanted to make sure it had gone. Nobody had mentioned this scan to me beforehand and all I was told about the cyst originally was that it was nothing to worry about. Could be something similar?

fakeflower · 22/04/2020 21:50

Thanks fizl. Maybe it’s something like that. Did they scan you again and had the cyst gone? This is a telephone call (booked pre coronavirus) so they can’t want to scan me. Mysterious!

Ah that's a good point - I didn't actually see or speak with the consultant who requested the scan. It had resolved itself so the lady who scanned me was happy and said nothing more was needed.

Hopefully it's nothing serious, if it was you'd like to think they would have said something to you before you were discharged Thanks

Fizzl · 22/04/2020 22:16

And also if it was something more serious I don't think they would have just scheduled a phone call, especially if it was arranged pre-corona times. My guess is it's just some kind of follow up 🤞

I had similar for low vitamin b and d, I think it was. Maybe you have low iron?

fakeflower · 23/04/2020 09:20

I know it was mad of me to post last night when the call was today, but your responses were very sensible and calmed me down last night!

Just had a call with doc. It was basically a well-being check. They hadn’t spotted anything wrong. He gave me some basic advice about getting pregnant again and what to do about suspected endometriosis. He was very reassuring, the call was only 5 mins I think!

Ah glad that's all it was! Must be a relief. And don't worry about posting, I often get in a panic about things and find it helpful to check out what others experiences have been.

Oakmaiden · 25/04/2020 13:02

I'm actually really impressed they did that.

fakeflower · 25/04/2020 14:00

The hospital have been great really, considering the strain the nhs is under even in normal times.

Also, I imagine if I did have a problem, eg still bleeding, pain etc it would have been simple to follow this up with another appointment. Rather than feeling you had to start referral process all over again.
