What to wear for induction UK?

Hi it's my first time being induced tomorrow afternoon, first baby so don't really know what to expect. UK based.

I'm booked in for 2pm and just wondering what would be best to wear? My current go to is leggings and a vest/T-shirt with an oversized cardigan.
Do they make you get changed into a hospital gown when you're induced? Or do you remain in your own clothes?

Comfy clothes sound good. I wore PJs mostly I think as just wanted to be comfortable but leggings sound perfect. You'll probably have the monitors on sporadically so easy access to your tummy is beneficial. I didn't wear a gown at all and doubt you will unless you're having a c section.

Remember to take iPad/magazines to keep you entertained as it can take a while. Good luck and congratulations : )

I wore a nightdress but had it off almost as soon as contractions really started, was too hot and it was getting in my way!
Good luck tomorrow x

I had an oversized buttoned shirt and PJ bottoms. I wore the shirt the whole time, easy to unbutton for skin-to-skin straight after birth.

I waited 2 days for my induction to take effect so I had nightdresses and a dressing gown on for those 2 days and whilst in active labour. I had an emergency c section and kept my nightie on all the time. It was only after the birth that I changed to pyjamas.

I wore leggings and a long t-shirt. I was induced on the drip and did have to change into a hospital gown.

At my trust, you only wear a hospital gown if you're going to theatre and have time to change.

I wore a strappy top and harem trousers to my induction. It was warm that day and the ward was baking hot (bring a fan!).

What you normally wear sounds fine, though I doubt you'll need the cardigan.

Good luck for tomorrow!

A nightie or an over sized T-shirt.

It could take up to 72 hours, so a few comfy options. Once I was induced I went for walks around the hospital grounds. Although this was pre Covid19 xxx

I wore dark joggers and a vest top, took a spare outfit the same and flip flops better than slippers (and 2 or my DD were Dec)

I was inducted with all my three and had lovely easy labours, good luck 🍀

I wore a jersey maxi dress, then changed into PJs, stretchy trousers and vest style.

Ward was way too hot, then when they broke my waters I didnt realised there would be several gushes, so got redressed, went for a walk and splash.

I ended up in a hospital gown, so would recommend a couple of cheap, nighties that food small and take up very little space just as a back up.

Good luck for today Smile when I was induced they made me wear a gown incase of complications? Could just be my hospital though. Just wear whatever your most comfortable in

ALJ1210 · 23/04/2020 18:11

Thanks for the responses everyone Smile

I attended in my usual outfit and had to put compression stockings on soon as I arrived (sexy Wink) then had an internal within the first hour so I ended up taking my bottom half off.

As soon as I was off the monitor I got changed into a buttoned night shirt, super comfy. Can already tell I'd rather live in pjs for this process!

First prostin gel is in place and was 1-2cm dilated when they inserted it so fingers crossed it works it's magic Thanks

Aww fantastic! Good luck I wish you a nice and healthy delivery. I was quite quick after being 2cm so let’s hope so! Flowers

You can wear what you want. You'll be monitored though so easy tummy access preferable. Dresses would be a faff. I was wearing leggings and a top and had just changed into PJs when my waters broke so ended up just in a vest top for the rest of my labour.

squee123 · 23/04/2020 19:05

whatever you're comfy in but definitely take a nightie option. If you end up with a baloon catheter pyjamas would be a right pain.
