For anyone anxious about attending antenatal appointments during lockdown...
I'm just back from my 32 week appointment. As I have been at home for the past 5 weeks and avoiding any social interaction at all (getting shopping delivered instead of going to the supermarket, etc.) I was a bit worried about venturing out and coming into contact with others.
However;
My midwife called yesterday to do a risk assessment over the phone. She basically asked if I or anyone in my household had any Covid19 symptoms. She then told me that when I arrived at the surgery I was to wait in the car until she called me.
She called and then came and met me at the main door wearing full PPE (mask, gloves and apron) and escorted me straight to the consultation room. I didn't see another sole.
Once in the room she was very efficient, carried out the usual checks - dipped my urine sample, took my blood pressure (she put clingfilm round my arm so that the cuff didn't touch my skin), measured my bump, listened in to the heartbeat and felt for baby's position.
I was given details of online antenatal classes which have been specially created for women who are pregnant during the pandemic and then escorted out.
It was a far more controlled and less stressful experience than I'd anticipated! Hopefully all other surgeries are taking the same precautions.
