Hi everyone! This is my first post on here so please excuse any initial faux pas (I'm not even sure if I've posted in the right place! I'll get there!)

I’m due late June with out first but may be delivering early (although I’m determined to do what I can to keep lil’ one in me for as long as it's safe as I'm only 31 weeks atm).

It's been a tough few days of hospital visits, monitoring and then trying to relay all this very important info to my partner as he's not allowed in due to Covid restrictions. Then we came home and realised that where we were in no hurry to get stuff until after lockdown, it now may well be ‘essential’ that we do 😬 (and it's one last thing to think about amidst what's going on)

But we're getting a bit overwhelmed with what's out there, brands, models, budgets, ease of use etc and would love some help to narrow down the field, pretty please!

I have an ideal wish list and we're looking to buy second-hand with a budget of approx £150-200 (if we can).

Travel System wish-list

  • something that can go from carry-cot to pram and car seat attachment with ideally not many extra parts (example carry cot that transforms to pram rather than 2 different units)
  • carry cot that can be safely used around the house for daytime naps safely instead of having a separate Moses basket (a lot of the carry cots I've seen look a little flimsy off the frame)
(We understand we may have to get a separate safe for sleeping in mattress which we're cool with)
  • easy to use day to day (fold, move etc...my partner doesn't have the most patience for complicated gadgets which I totally understand 😂)
  • compatible with a lot of car seats (I think, not sure how interchangeable brands and attachments are to different car seats yet and car seat options are driving me crazy at the moment too...pardon the pun.)
  • easy to clean (ideally can stick removable bits in the wash)
  • something sturdy that will last until toddlerhood (and hopefully beyond as we do hope to have more children)

I'm sure there's practical bits im missing, as I said I'm a FTM and trying my best to make the best decisions I can for our little one.

Any advice greatly appreciated, at the moment my brain feels like it will explode with information overload from all sides! 😅

FTM here too! Congratulations!

I have got the Diono Quantum stroller, it changes from a carry cot to a toddler seat with a couple of clips. It’s supposed to last until they are around 4 years old. Which means I don’t have to go out and buy another buggy and it lasts longer. Come with removable liners/mattress for when they are small. It came with attachments for a car seat to sit on the frame which are compatible with a few different ones. We went for the Maxi Cosi CabrioFix car seat to go with it.
We purchased these both at very good prices because Mothercare had their closing down sale. It’s a lovely looking Pram with storage underneath, full size hood, spf protection.
You may prefer to go for a full travel system that includes a car seat but at the time this was the best deal for us. Haven’t used any of it yet mind you, but have tested it and felt comfortable for me and my rather tall partner (it has an extending handle so he won’t have to bend to push it)

Good luck with everything x

Also a first time mum here, albeit due in September but wanted to start getting organised! I found this set online that we have pre-ordered and it seems to have everything that we would need! There are various other sets/bundles on this website too though so I'd definitely suggest having a look around! I've heard Joie are a very safe brand though and they do plenty of tests on their products and this was a priority for us too. Here's the link to what we've ordered! Hope this helps!

Amazing thank you both! I’ll have a look at both those options. Appreciate it :)

I'm a FTM and was happy to go second hand for most things except a car seat.

I got a great deal on a second hand Jules Day 3 pram/pushchair in immaculate condition but will buy a new car seat (second hand) and just get adaptors if I want to fit it to the pushchair frame (not sure how often I will use that function in practice but want to have the option).
The Jules Pushchair and carrycot both use the same frame rather than being totally separate units so you just zip on the bit you need on to the frame if that makes sense meaning the bit you're not using is much easier to store. You can take the frame off as a whole too though so whilst using it in carrycot mode, you can easily use it as a moses basket. It feels well made and sturdy.

As a tip, since you can't just go into a shop now to try them out. Once you've narrowed it down to a few brands you like, have a look at videos and reviews on YouTube. It's not exactly the same but it should give you an idea of what they are all like. I agree it's a minefield for first time parents.

I had my first just before lockdown and have an Oyster 3. I absolutely love it! It's easy to use and bit too wide, feels nice to push, folds and puts up so easily! And it is so compact it all fits under my stairs when folded down. I have a carrycot that I use in the house either on the pram or on the floor in the lounge rather than a Moses basket and it works perfectly. So glad I didn't bother with a noses basket as at 6 weeks she's so long she's nearly out of the carrycot as it is.

It has adapters so that it can be used with a maxi cosi car seat too.

This model only came out last year so if you can get a good deal second hand you know it's still fairly new.

I've ordered a nuna travel mixx

Are you in the u.k.? My neighbour has this and absolutely raves about it, the carrycot turns into the seat unit and it comes with a carseat that you can fit on the wheels all for £199

Might have to shop around though as argos says limited stock but I have seen them on the george asda website too x

I have also just recently ordered a mamas and papas ocarro after the really good reviews I have read about them, but people do sell them second hand for about £200
