Hi All,
I am first time pregnant. I registered for antenatal care. I received dating scan letter but didn't receive any call or mail from midwife. I am quite confused what to do. pour your suggestions.

Go to the appointment, with letter in hand, as instructed.

CaryStoppins · 21/04/2020 12:32

Does the letter give you instructions?

PotteringAlong · 21/04/2020 12:33

Confused about what? You’ve had a letter for a hospital appointment. Just go to the appointment, with your letter.

GaaaaarlicBread · 21/04/2020 12:36

Just go to hospital with the letter at the time instructed . Nothing complicated xx

2beautifulbabs · 21/04/2020 12:36

I would say that they plan on doing all your medical history and details on day of your scan.

I also imagine that most booking ins that were doing before you had a scan won't be happening for sometime to reduce the risk of midwifes catching covid 19 and also the fact that some will be over stretched as it is to be able to offer booking in appointments.

Try not to worry op in your concerned always give them a call should be a number on the letter you had

Have you actually seen your midwife at all before this? You would normally have a booking in appointment before your first scan so you can get your maternity notes. Have you had that? If not I would give your midwife /gp a call just to see what's happening. A lot of places are cancelling antenatal appointments that aren't scans, so it's worth checking.

Revik · 21/04/2020 12:56

thanks for your detailed explanation.

Our hospital asked women who hadn't had a booking apt to attend the scan and then saw a midwife there to take history straight afterwards

Thescrewinthetuna · 21/04/2020 12:58

Some places do the booking appointment at the scan

Revik · 21/04/2020 12:58

I didn't receive any call or mail for booking in appointment. I don't know who is my midwife. I didn't discuss anything to midwife. thats what I am confused with.

Also in the letter they mentioned not to bring anyone even my husband. I can understand its because of current covid 19 situation. But if suddenly they say about booking in appointment at the scan how come my husband can come. Already I need to travel for 40min form my home to hospital in public transport.

You’ll probably have your booking in appointment after your scan (or maybe just before).

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 21/04/2020 13:05

Your husband doesn’t need to attend any of your ante-natal appointments.

LexiM · 21/04/2020 13:07

It may be that they’ve changed it and your booking appointment is straight after the scan instead of the usual process. If you aren’t sure you can always call the midwife clinic and ask. Some areas don’t allocate a specific midwives as there are so many covering the area so you may not meet “your midwife”.

I doubt your husband would be allowed to the booking appointment either as all appointments are Mum only.

Revik · 21/04/2020 13:18

I got some clarity with your suggestions. Thanks for all your time and inputs. Good day everyone.

Your husband doesn’t need to attend the booking in appointment - as long as you know his family medical history you’re grand.

Nestofvipers · 21/04/2020 13:24

But if suddenly they say about booking in appointment at the scan how come my husband can come.

Your husband doesn’t need to come to the booking appointment (or any other antenatal appointment). In the current climate he probably won’t be allowed to come and even if he was he would be well advised not to come

FearnRJ · 21/04/2020 13:54

This poor girl is asking for advice not for people jumping down her throat!

Being pregnant in this current situation stinks!

I would probably phone the maternity department at your hospital and ask them and just explain that the letter isn't quite clear. They should have explained on the letter they sent to you the process, everything about this current situation annoys me everyday but I know there is nothing we can do about it. My little girl is due Friday so I understand.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy ❤️ x

CaryStoppins · 21/04/2020 14:11

Can your husband drive you and wait in the car?

1990shopefulftm · 21/04/2020 14:14

They might do your booking appointment by phone, they did mine that way and then I have bloods taken, my bloods checked and height and weight done after my scan today so they re still checking what they should be just a little later :) how far along are you? Some places don't do first appointments till 10 weeks if you re low risk where as some are earlier.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 21/04/2020 15:09

Who’s “jumping on her”, @FearnRJ?

FearnRJ · 21/04/2020 15:37

@OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe the first few comments seemed abit off to me that's all.

Foreverbaffled · 21/04/2020 19:25

I was told to self refer but also to call gp surgery to arrange my booking in appointment. I’d therefore second the advise to speak to your surgery too :) Congratulations!
