Early scan 1 week behind- experiences? when to have NIPT?

Early viability scan today after IVF pregnancy, so dates are exact in terms of fertilisation. Should be 7+2, but measuring 6+2. Heartbeat present and looks good otherwise.

I realise its very early days, only 5mm, but given I know my dates, I'm surprised to be a week out. Any experiences- good or bad?

We plan to have NIPT, which is only from 10weeks, but should I wait till 11 week incase it still small then?

Whilst I didn’t have IVF, I track my BBT so know exactly when I ovulate. This pregnancy I had an early scan due to bleeding (at what should have been 7 and 8 weeks) at the first scan I was a week behind, like you measuring 6 weeks, by the next week I had caught up and was measuring 8 weeks as I should have been. I’m now 34 weeks!

Honestly sometimes they can’t measure properly because it’s so small, and at this stage mm out is quite a lot! I’m sure everything is fine, I hope everything works out well for you xxx

We paid privately for our NIPT scan and had it done at 15 weeks

I didn't have ivf but I did go for an early scan expecting to be 7+5 and baby only measured 6+1.
Everything looked fine and there was a heartbeat and I was told that it's pretty normal for baby's to measure out at that stage.
By the time I had my dating scan, baby had caught up by a week and I'm now 23+5.

Thanks for the replies.

@kittykat7210- Can I ask why you waited till 15 weeks to have the NIPT? I had it at 10 weeks with 1st pregnancy, and plan to with this one (unless they advise to wait an extra week).

@Elouera

Because we weren’t going to have it at first, we got a 1:180 chance back from our 12 week scan, unfortunately not within NHS high risk cut off (1:150) we had that back at 14 weeks and booked for the next private NIPT we could go to. Our NIPT results came back 1:10,000 which is the lowest chance they give so we were happy, and also found out we were having another girl!

I know that the earlier you do it sometimes the less accurate it is because there needs to be time for the fetal cells to build up in the mothers blood.

@kittykat7210- I'm glad it all worked out well. Our 1st pregnancy had patau syndrome (trisomy 13) which was picked up at 10weeks on the NIPT. The scan showed obvious abnormalities and the autopsy confirmed it, hence keen to do it as early as possible again.

Glad everyone had good outcomes.

I went for an early scan at 6+1 (was pretty sure on my dates as had been tracking on app and done ovulation tests etc) - measured 5 weeks, saw a prawn with heartbeat, which is as good as it gets at that point - the lady scanning me said I was super early and if we'd come the day before we wouldn't have seen anything. When I went back 3 weeks later (i.e. 9 weeks) I was measuring at exactly 9 weeks. And when I went for my 12 week scan at what I thought was exactly 12 weeks, I was put at 12+2, so pushed forward a couple of days which is where I have stayed from then on. I don't think it's unusual for really early scans to measure smaller than expected and often you will catch up to where you 'should' be later on Smile Nothing to offer on the NIPT front I'm afraid, as we didn't have that but I understand your worries given your previous experiences - we went for the two early scans after 2 MCs last year.

I thought I'd update incase others are reading this in the future. Unfortunately, I MC'd just before 10 weeks. This was despite seeing a heartbeat on the 7 week scan. I majority measuring behind have caught up, but I guess this isn't always the case.
