Measuring ahead and breech

Hi everyone

Anyone any experience of measuring ahead at scan.

I'm 31 + 3 weeks but today I was measuring 34 + 3... with a weight of 5lb - should I expect to go any earlier?

Anything I can do to naturally move the baby into position...

Thank you!

Hey baby was 6lb 5 oz at 32 weeks. He was also breech then transverse. I'd already opted for c section but it was bought forward to 37 weeks because of risk of big baby and maternal age. Head and abdomen measuring off the charts for loads of scans.

Born at 37 weeks and 2 days 6lb 15 which was 57th percentile. Perfectly average baby.

Thanks very much for your experience. It is good to hear someone else's experience and to know they can also get it wrong!!

Clicked the link too to get some exercise options for this breech baba! Thanks very much.

Hello I’m in a very similar position. I’m 31+4 today and consultant today measured my bump at 34. I wasn’t booked in for a growth scan but she did a quick scan on the monitor and said baby is breech and has excess fluid around him (probably due to my gestational diabetes). I’m booked in for w proper growth scan next week and also at 36 weeks. Apparently there is something called an ECV they can do around 37 weeks to try and move the baby round. I imagine you’ll also have some extra scans to see what’s going on in there and how big baby is getting too etc?

BeMorePacific · 20/04/2020 22:36

Your baby still might move. My 1st baby was always measuring big, I was sure I’d go early.. but instead went 10 days late. He was 9lbs 8. They just come when they’re ready xx

Rubyroost · 20/04/2020 22:43

@Catlover10 I was diagnosed with gest diabetes after measuring 5 weeks ahead. I also had polyhydramnios (excess fluid) Once I was diagnosed and my levels monitored they said that there was no way the diabetes caused excess growth and the excess fluid as my glucose levels were too low. Still no idea why fluid was so high, it went to 31cm at one point (diagnosed as poly at 20cm)

Catlover10 · 20/04/2020 23:00

@rubyroost interesting...I don’t know what my levels are actually at as I haven’t had a growth scan yet but she just commented there looked like there was quite a lot of fluid (but she didn’t act like there was an extreme case of it at the moment). Guess I will have to wait until next week to find out. My blood levels aren’t particularly high but they are all over the place and so far I’m still not on anythibg for it, so I guess I will probably be put on some soon as diet isn’t helping all the time. Hope everything was/is okay with your little one now!!

I was on metaformin straight away as they diagnosed so late at 34 weeks. Baby is doing great at 7 weeks now

Mccracken23 · 20/04/2020 23:22

@catlover yeah I am consultant led so I am
Booked in at 36 weeks for a rescan but have booked a private scan in 2 weeks time for my own review and just to see how all is going.

Worry is by 36 weeks( time of next scan) the baby will already be too big to do the evc. Main thing is though is that the baby is ok. The consultant I seen today didn't mention diabetes or seemed remotely concerned.

@Mccracken23 I had a private scan with a very well known consultant (I too wanted a second opinion) who at 33 weeks est weight to be 6lb 6 oz. 4 weeks later baby was 6lb 15.

Rubyroost · 20/04/2020 23:32

@Mccracken23 honestly in my opinion those growth scans are so in accurate and I think breech can be more difficult to measure.

Rubyroost · 20/04/2020 23:33

@Mccracken23 il. Not sure I'd want an evc. Do they always perform them? Don't they come with their own risks?

Mccracken23 · 20/04/2020 23:37

@Rubyroost yeah not sure I want one either and ideally want the baby to move naturally. Need to do my research on it. All thoughts welcome on them!!

Really don't want a c section in the current climate as don't want to be in the hospital any longer than need to be, coal hospital aren't allowing visitors in either but if that is the safest method of delivery for the baby in times like this so be it.

Well I think it could move up until 36 weeks so that's when you need to consider options. I see what you mean about c section, but likely they'll have you out within 24 hours. I had complications with my c section and was still put within 24 hours.
