Hi all-just that really. Wondering how many of you have been wearing masks to appointments? Were many others wearing them? Can’t decide! Thanks.

I've got my 1st scan tomorrow. I don't have any masks, even if I wanted to wear one. I'll be interested to see if I get give one, or if the staff are wearing them?

At my last appointment I was asked to put on a disposable mask at the entrance to the building (a GP Practice) as were anyone else there waiting so I suspect lots of places will be doing the same

Lauracrazygirl · 20/04/2020 19:58

Yes, I have some FFP1 masks my FIL left at my home when he was building our shed. I wear it in the taxi to my appointment and back. I dont care if I look silly.

I had to wait in the carpark and phone to say I was there, then the midwife met me and I had to put on a mask, apron and gloves. She was fully kitted up too. I was very reassured by their approach! No waiting around indoors with others.

Maybe phone and ask what you should do/ bring, and you may find they are also giving out supplies on arrival.

FidgetyTwitch · 20/04/2020 20:10

@Lauracrazygirl did you keep it on throughout the whole appointment? Or did you speak to the midwife whilst still wearing it? I'm trying to work out if I need to bring a second one to wear home again, or if i can safely move it for the appointment...

I went for a scan 2 weeks ago and nobody was wearing one - apart from the staff obviously. Everyone was sitting far apart from each other though - the chairs were all really spread out and the waiting area was really quiet.

Bubblesbebe · 20/04/2020 20:19

I wore a mask to my scan last week.
I live in London so had to take the tube to the hospital, that was my main concern, but actually as soon as I arrived to the hospital’s waiting room most of the women waiting were wearing one, so I didn’t feel odd.
Just do what feels right for you... if you are concerned, wear it, It’s pretty common these days.

Bubblesbebe · 20/04/2020 20:22

@FidgetyTwitch I didn’t take mine off till I was back home, wore it during the scan and while talking to the doctor..

New2020 · 20/04/2020 20:24

I wore a mask and gloves to my harmony test last week. The practitioners all wore a mask and gloves too. Some others there had masks or gloves on. I felt a bit silly at first but rather that than catch something. Have my nhs 12 week scan on Thursday and wonder what precautions they'll have in place

UrsulaSings · 20/04/2020 21:45

Have my 20 week scan wednesday. Will be wearing mask and gloves. Have been wearing mask and gloves in supermarket as well.

EmotionalFlood · 20/04/2020 21:58

Can I just add to this, people wearing gloves... if you wear them out and then in the hospital you're still spreading germs, you still need to remove and bin the gloves when you enter the hospital, wash and antibac your hands then put on another pair of gloves if you want to... I had a pregnant woman in for a scan wearing gloves who went to empty her bladder and came back in for the scan wearing THE SAME gloves!! Dirty, dirty, dirty and putting people at risk EnvyAngry

Lauracrazygirl · 20/04/2020 22:15

@fidgetytwitch - I kept it on from the moment I left the house until I came back. So yes, I kept it on for the appointment, the midwife didn't mind.

WorriedButterfly · 20/04/2020 22:53

I wore one and everyone else I saw in the hospital (patients and staff) had one. I decided no gloves as you'll have to sanitizer. The nurses did all doors so I didn't actually touch anything at all. I put my mask on when I got out the car, in hindsight because I was nervous anyway I should have put it on earlier to let my breathing settle a bit. If you have one I would wear it for sure.

Elouera · 21/04/2020 10:43

Just got back from a 7 week viability scan. 1 receptionist had a surgical mask on, the other had nothing. The nurse doing the scanning had gown, visor, gloves and mask, the other who was just watching only had a mask, apron and gloves.

I would have worn a mask if I had one. Only 2 others in waiting room, all sat apart- 1 had a surgical mask on. My hospital (large teaching hospital in London) have staggered EPU appointments so the waiting room isn't overflowing with patients- as I'm sure most places are.

KitKatKit · 21/04/2020 11:52

Didn't wear a mask or gloves, wrapped a very thin scarf around my neck and mouth, and washed my hands with soap whilst in the hospital + used antibac gel on the walls whilst I was there.

grey12 · 21/04/2020 12:03

I lived in the far east a few months years ago and have a fabric mask. They get bad dust storms there.

I used that fabric mask for my scan appointment and put it in the washing machine as soon as I got home ready for next time :)

Fabric masks are better than no mask. At least a scarf?

grey12 · 21/04/2020 12:05

Btw!! No real need for gloves. They made me wash my hands like 4 times whilst I was there!!
