Hey!
New here and about to be a dad in the next 8 hours, and new some advice as online is confusing me more!

I have a car seat with isofix base which is great but where in the car is best to place it? Understand it is the back seats but can it be either driver side or passenger side? And if it’s behind the passenger side should I turn that airbag off?

Thanks for any help on my probably simple to everyone else question

I put mine in the back seat on the passenger side because then I can turn around and see or reach across to the child while parked (or in the event of an accident). It’s much harder to reach if the seat is directly behind you.

It can be either side. When you say turn the air bag off, do you mean the one in the front seat (above glove box)? No you only turn that off if the seat is in the front. Congrats and good luck!

Our car seat is behind passenger seat in the rear of the car. Airbag is still on in front seat.

INeedNewShoes · 19/04/2020 23:12

There's not a lot in it choosing between the two rear seats.

If you have to park on the road outside your house, I'd choose the side of the car that tends to be on the pavement.

I chose to put Dad's car seat behind the driver's seat as I'm a single parent so it tends to just be me and DD in the car so it's convenient us both being on the same side so that I can park the car with the passenger side right up to a wall if needs be and we can both easily get out. Also means any passengers don't risk clunking the car seat if they decide they want more leg room.

But none of these issues are significant!

Good luck Smile

You need to turn the air bag off. Can be either side but I’ve read (can’t remember where) it’s safer in the driver side. Think about how your seats fold down as well. Congratulations.

DD's not Dad's Hmm

Leg room is a good point. My car is small and I’m tall. If I put my baby seat behind the drivers seat I wouldn’t have enough room to stretch my legs and drive comfortably!

You need to turn the air bag off

Why would you need to turn off the front airbag if baby is in the back seat?

SpillTheTeaa · 19/04/2020 23:24

When I had mine fitted the lady said the best place for the car seat is behind the passenger seat and no don't turn the air bag off if the car seat is in the back. Good luck!

This whole information is wrong. Don't listen to this please.

myliffe · 19/04/2020 23:27

If the seat is in the back you don't turn the airbag off as if you have a crash with a front seat passenger they've no protection. Air bag off if the child is in the front. Side doesn't matter in terms of safety it just depends what you find easier.

xine15 · 19/04/2020 23:33

Safest is middle back but many cars can't do this and it would (I imagine) be a pita. Next safest is behind the passenger. If you think about which side is more likely to get hit the drivers side is more exposed when you are turning right so passenger is better. No need to turn off airbags if it's going in the back.

Good luck and congratulations!
