Prodding baby

Is it ok to gently prod your tummy if you haven’t felt the baby move in a while? I’ve been doing this and it does usually get a response, but I’m worried it’s annoying the baby!

I’m 38 weeks and constantly paranoid about movement, as my baby has never had an obvious pattern.

I'm 29+4 - I gently prod my little one when he's been a little quiet, to be fair I'm probably just impatient. He's moving quite regularly but some days i just get a little paranoid.
It's been made worse these last 2 days as I've got a tummy bug, with griping pains, so I've been trying hard to decide what is my boy and what is the dreaded griping pains!

I prodded all the time with dd,

If baby isn't as active tried a cold glass or water of fizzy pop, lay down on your right/left ( sorry Op I can't remember which) or a warm bath that tends to get them going... how many weeks are you? If you care worried deffo ring your midwife team

if you are worried def call your midwife!

but I was prodding a lot, I loved grabbing dc's feet when they were poking out.

I’m an awful prodder! 39+4 here and give her a good shuffle when she’s being quiet. I think she must be a heavy sleeper because she’ll only respond when she wants to!

A glass of iced water will make the little one move.

I find that lying down and turning from one side onto the other can encourage mine to wiggle a bit.

ElsieDear · 20/04/2020 07:51

I often got movement if I rubbed round and round firmly on my belly rather than prodding.

I've always given mine a bit of a shove...but like when the midwife has a feel. Also a cold drink can swing them into action combined with a lie down (walking around often pulls them to sleep). BUT any concerns ring your hospital and get checked out. Better to be safe!

Lulls not pulls!

The sonographer did that during the 20 week scan as he was asleep in an unfavorable position, but he sure as hell moved. I do it from the to time if I haven't noticed him move in a while.
