Lump on upper gum - anyone

Hi all,

I have a whitish looking lump on my upper gum. It's slightly squishy but isn't sore and doesn't affect my eating or talking and isn't painful.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing during pregnancy and what was done about it if anything?

I had toothache about a month ago which I saw the dentist for and there wasn't much she could do but this lump has come since then.

Any help / advice appreciated! I have a photo but not sure I want to post it yet 😬

Might be infected. You should show it to a dentist and see what they gave to say

Sounds like a periodontal abscess.

Periodontal absence I recon, my DS had similar above a damaged tooth

I'm a dentist if you want to PM me the picture I can have a look for you!

@cakeislife123 I'm not sure how to send to just you haha so I've attached the photo and just covered the rest of my mouth 😂 (not that it's gross but I have a filling there which no one needs to see)

The lump isn't sore or anything but don't know if I need to be seen or anything? Don't want to waste anyone's time obviously right now

It looks like an abscess, with it having a big filling next to it I’d be inclined to say that it’s originating from the root of the tooth but it could possibly be a gum abscess. At the moment most dentists aren’t able to see patients face to face, you could ring Your dentist or NHS 111 for some advice but they may tell you to ring back when treatment is an option. They may alternatively give you some antibiotics to tide you over in the meantime but they won’t solve the problem completely in the long term, for that you’ll need more treatment done.
At the moment the infection from around the tooth is tracking its own way out which it has done and formed the lump on your gum, but there is always a risk of it causing a bigger facial swelling so definitely ring 111 or your own dentist if this happens

Hope this helps! Xx

@cakeislife123 ahh thank you!

I did see my dentist when I had toothache a couple of weeks ago but like you said she couldn't do much! She took an X-ray but thinks the problem may been under the filling.

I thought the issue was because of the tooth so I'm glad it's nothing more serious. I think they will be reluctant to give me antibiotics as well because of the pregnancy 😩

If it does get sore / worse I will of course call them but thank you very much for your help! 😀
