I've just bought some butter and realised it says made from unpasteurised milk. Does anyone know if I can still eat it or not?

Don’t use it.

For dairy products, only pasteurized foods (high pasteurization or UHT) should be eaten

MissMuddyPuddles · 18/04/2020 17:20

Yeah I wouldn't eat it, although when I was pregnant butter was never something I would have though to check Shock

Thanks for your replies!! Yeah I thought as much. I was secretly hoping someone would say it was fine, il let my husband enjoy it.
I only realised when I looked to see if it contained salt.

What sort of butter is it out of curiosity?

kennyjenny · 18/04/2020 17:49

@MonaLisaDoesntSmile it's just a butter I picked up from a farm shop, it says it's made from cows In Yorkshire.

It’s not actually a no to all things unpasteurised dairy in pregnancy. You can have unpasteurised hard cheese and unpasteurised soft cheese if it’s cooked/heated.

Supermarket stuff will be from pasteurised milk. Its because it's from a farm shop that its unpasteurised. Use it in cooking/baking as that would destroy any bacteria

Elouera · 18/04/2020 18:23

Yes, you can eat it, BUT, only if cooked/heated. Garlic bread, in a hot sauce, cake, biscuits etc. (I bet it would taste lovely with fresh, crusty bread BTW! )

Butter freezes well if you would rather save it than miss out on it now.
