How/when do you get booked for induction?

Hi, I'm pregnant with my first currently 40+2 today. I have an appointment on Monday with the midwife when I'll be 40+4, I'm booked in for a sweep this day too.
Does the midwife book your induction for you during the appointment? Or do you have to directly ring your hospital for this?

I'm based in North East, UK. When I had my tour of the maternity services in this hospital they said they only allow you to go to 41 weeks in this trust due to various reasons (I'm aware you can refuse induction btw) but since I'll be 40+4 the next time I see her I doubt they'll be able to book me in within a few days?

If anyone can help I'd be really grateful, thanks Smile

My trust is 42 weeks but at my last appointment at 40 weeks I was just given a number to ring up at 8am on the morning I turned 12days overdue. They couldn’t get me in that day so I had to ring back the next morning & they gave me a time to go in that day .

Midwide usually ‘books’ you a day at your ‘‘Overdue” appointment, but this isn't precise and you’re given a time/date to ring the induction unit, and you’ll be on their list and they will give you a suitable time etc depending on how busy they are. That’s how it’s worked in my last two trusts, others may do it differently! They can book you in at short notice, it usually is short notice lol.

My trust (South Manchester) books you automatically if you're still pregnant at 40+8 (you have a midwife appt on this day too) but I refused. I'd ask the midwives and I'd also say no rush either. 40+4 is not too bad and inductions rarely work if your body is not ready for labour.

Thanks for the responses so far Smile I'll have to ask my MW on Monday at my 40+4 appointment. I didn't know they can often get you booked in quickly, thought I was cutting it fine only having 3 days to spare!

You'll have plenty of time. They can book you in there and then - I was offered an appt for induction the very next day at my 40+8 appt.

I’ve been induced twice at the QE in gateshead (and once went into labour spontaneously the morning I was meant to be induced).

I’m sure I got a provisional date when I got to 41 weeks (8.5 years ago now) and the same for DS2. With DS3 (3.5 years ago) because I had gone into spontaneous labour at 40+10 they let me wait until 40+10 to be induced. But yes, they only need 1 or 2 days notice.

If that’s where you happen to be going, I couldn’t fault them any time! Flowers

They booked me in

I’d accept the sweep as well tbh. Anything you can do to get things going is probably worth it.

You can decline though - I declined everything until we got to 42 weeks. She then pretty much refused to leave as it was.
